MS Flight Sim X

Does anyone have this? I wanted to try it out and I finally have a system that'll run it with no issues. Also, what's a good joystick? I want something decent but I don't need a full cockpit in my room. I was thinking the Logitech Extreme 3D.
What type of issues are you eluding to? From what I've read, this game makes even 8800 GTX systems come to a crawl at the higher settings.

I run this on ultra-high on a P4, 2GB Ram, and a 256MB x800xl card. The only issue I have is I have Ultimate Terrain X installed (a great $35 add-on). That really hogs my system down. I have to turn it off whenever I fly multiplayer.

Check out pestgaming, Stryker. There are about 5 of us that fly together on multiplayer. We have one guy who is a pilot and really helps us out with instruments and getting familiar with them.

I fly with a Saitek ST290 Pro. The best stick $25 can buy. I have no complaints with it.

I tried the FS global terrain for north america and it too slowed FS-X down quite a bit. They are not optimized for FS-X. I have since uninstalled FS-X.

I bought it tonight along with the Logitech Extreme 3D.

I use that same controller, only wireless. I've also been running on a P4 3.4 system with a 6600 GT card with no issues at all. It's a great flight sim!

Hey I just saw this.....does anyone have their Flight Sim X looking like this?

Not yet. FSX isn't DX10 ready yet. There will be a patch in the future.
Will it truly be a patch, or will you be forced to buy the Andrenaline expansion pack?
Reports are that it will be a patch.

I admit that I don't have this game, but that's surprising given the reviews I've read. For example, this review from Gamespot.com:

The power of this software package is mind boggling. But that power comes at a price. On a system with an Athlon XP 3400+, 2GB RAM, and an Nvidia 7800 video card (certainly not cutting edge but also not unreasonable, particularly for the broader market to whom Microsoft is trying to reach out with Flight Simulator X), with performance options all set fairly low, frame rates averaged about 8 to 14 frames per second. This same system runs Flight Simulator 2004 at high settings with frame rates averaging 25-plus fps. In higher-density settings, such as flying over Las Vegas or some detailed airports, frame rates rarely climbed higher than 10fps.

Flying around the Orlando area (not great scenery, but not bad) on the high settings it looks pretty good. AMD 64x2 4600, 2 gig DDR2 667, 7600GT card.

They only time I get a little jumpy is my final approach and landing. Other than that, I'm pretty smooth. I think around 25 FPS.

Does anyone else use the flight video recorder? Mine is totally screwed up.

Pics I took after downloading the Qantas skin.

The detail is sick on some of these areas though. If you look at the second picture you can see the Olympic stadium, and in the third picture you can see downtown Sydney and the Opera House.

More pics flying through Sydney:

I would be very interested to see a FRAPS on that. I tried running this game on my P43.2 2gig w/7800GS (faster than the X800XL), and was lucky to get 15 FPS even on the lower settings...

Are you really getting 25fps performance with an X800XL??

I get 30-35 on my machine but it's brand new.

Intel C2D 6600
2GB 6400 RAM
NVidia 8800GTX

Some parts of FS-X chokes on my Intel C2D 6600, 2GB, NVidia 8800GTS 640MB. But FS-X is buggy as hell.

- Autopilot will commit suicide in midair with VFR flight. Yes, even though theres no route data, I just want it to keep my altitude and heading. Instead it nose dives.

- Pressing "S" to have a look at the outside of the plane and at different angles will sometimes make it stuck at one view and it will stay that way until you restart.

- Zoom will get stuck at max and never return.

- I'm not sure if the planes behave this way but flying a Boeing 737 vs an Airbus 320 should be the same but the Airbus is much much harder to land. It keeps wanting to float.

- Flight recorder is completely useless.

Here's some pics from our flight last night from Lake Tahoe to Vegas. We set the date to July 4th so when we hit Vegas the fireworks were going off.

I like this game but is it me or it's really hard for me to land, fly at a cruising altitude and speed, learn all the little buttons, and to control. I use a mouse and a keyboard.

How would I fare?

AMD Athlon 64 x2 5400+
3GB DDR2 800 RAM
RADEON x1950 pro 256mb graphics card

It would run smoothly on all Medium High settings with no AA or AF @ 30-40FPS

Are the fireworks an add-on? I flew Vegas for the first time last night, pretty cool with the fountains and spotlights. I flew a chopper at street level, amazing you can read the signs...I saw George Carlin was playing.

The fireworks are not an add-on. If you fly in some of the major cities on July 4th or NYE you'll see them. I think for the Fourth they started at 10pm.
Thanks, I'll try 10pm. I tried 8 and 9....didn't see any.

Stryker, do you fly on VATSIM or doing this just straight with FS?

I used to fly on VATSIM with Southwest Airlines.
