My questions are:

Is the speaker pairing ideal with the center and AVR?

How will these Jamo's work for my viewing preferences/room layout?

Thanks in advance.

Who's selling the c-80 center. I can't seem to find one.

Just wanted to share my excitement that my Jamos have arrived. Woohoo!

Needed another set of budget monitors and decided on a trying a pair of c603. So far so good! I want to get to know them a bit more and give them time to settle in before I comment on their sound.

Anyone know the thought process behind placing the tweeter below the woofer?

I dunno, maybe they think this model sounds better that way? They also do the same for the C601 bookshelf and C60 surround speaker.

Mission does that with all their bookshelf speakers. I had some Heco bookshelf speakers with the tweeter below the woofer too.

What receiver would you get for a Jamo S 606 HCS 3 (5 speaker system), paired with a Klipsch sub-10 subwoofer? I'm looking for the best bang for my buck here.

Thanks man, Vanns I have a watch on (out of stock) the other site i'll check out.

Pretty much any deal you can get on the reputable brands. Entry level would probably work for you if the features are adequate.

I contacted digital and they ship to Canada. A bit more searching to do but it looks like my E-8 cen will be moved to being my 6th channel to make room for the C-80 cen :-)

Did they give any more detail on shipping to Canada? I was looking at some Jamo sets, so thanks to afrogt for linking to Digital Buyer. They seem reputable, and it's still a better deal than many places here in Canada (even accounting for shipping+currency conversion).

I didn't ask beyond if they ship to Canada. I have a couple other shops to get a hold of first. I know they won't be as expensive as shipping my HSU 15H subs here.

P.S. their pricing on the C-807s/C-80 surr are darn close to what I paid for mine here in Ontario.

Hi all - I could use some feedback/advice: I recently picked up the Jamo s426hcs3 package from Fry's for the $149 deal and picked up the sub210 for $99. The sound, as might be expected, isn't great, as these are entry level speakers, but I'm trying to come up with something I can live with until I can afford an amazing ($$$) setup.

I read that I can greatly improve the sound of this system by upgrading the 8" s210 to a bigger, better sub. Then, a few days ago there was an Amazon "lightening deal" for a JBL ES250PBK 12-Inch Subwoofer. Normally in the $350-$400 range, I got it for $179.

After placing the order, I discovered just how MASSIVE this thing is. It would be like putting a mini fridge in my living room. So, before I accept the shipment, I wanted to get some feedback on how this massive, powerful subwoofer will match up with my entry level Jamo setup. I know it's a different class of speaker, but I don't know a thing about sound technology, i.e. ohms, power rating, frequency response, etc., so I'd greatly appreciate as much feedback as possible. I also read that some brands match up better than others, so any feedback in that regard would also be greatly appreciated.

Here are the specs of the JBL:

Technical Specifications

Frequency Response: 25Hz--150Hz
Amplifier RMS Power: 400 Watts
Amplifier Peak Dynamic Power: 700 Watts
Crossover Frequencies: 50Hz--150Hz; 24dB/octave, continuously variable
Driver: 300mm (12") PolyPlas
Dimensions (H x W x D): 19-3/4" x 15-3/4" x 16-7/8" (502mm x 400mm x 428mm)
Weight: 19.5kg / 43 lb

Many thanks,

John

Has anyone ever heard the C403 vs. the C603's or C803's?

I currently have the 403's for bedroom music listening and was pondering the upgrade to the 603 or 803 (more likely 603 based on price). How much of an upgrade it would be?

I do like my 403's. They have the best bass response I have heard from a bookshelf speaker when compared to the energy RC-10, BIC DV62si, ADS sat 7's, even though the BIC's and the ADS's are both rated to 40hz.

The RC-10 is a great crisp and clear speaker, but I find the C403 more dynamic for music listening and sound like a bigger speaker (they are slightly bigger). The BIC is a brighter speaker and seems a overly exaggerated in the vocals which drowns out the instrumentals. This is even with a crossover mod by Dave1027 on the forum. Supposedly he has an improvement on this mod which I will be trying out eventually.

Considering I like the C403 in comparison with the other brands, it leaves me wondering about the 603 and 803. What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

From everything I've read the C600 and C800 series are a big step up over the C400 line and the S606, s506 and s426 lines. Even the E600 speakers too like my E680's. They cost a lot more though.

I'm waiting to find a fantastic deal on the C603's myself. I know somebody got a pair of C603's for $150 once on ebay. I'm in no rush as this is a want more than a need.
wish I didn't recently threw away the styrofoam and boxes for my e660 and S60CEN as I am thinking of selling it online (ebay?) as no one buys speakers around here on craigslist other than car subwoofers.
The boxes my speakers came in were in bad shape by the time they got here from Pennsylvania. The speakers were undamaged though. I believe the E660s both came two to a package.

It's easy to find a box to pack the center channel so no problem there.

Been researching for a while, just bought a set of S606HCS3 gloss black from Vanns. Price yesterday on Ebay was $399, today $449 on Ebay but they gave me yesterday's price when I called them up, gotta love Vanns! After reading all the UPS horror stories on here, I'm worried about their condition when they arrive, maybe there should be a new thread on UPS horror stories. I once purchased 8 UPS batteries, ones that are the size of car batteries, and when they arrived on a pallet there were dual truck tire tracks across the top of the box and battery acid leaking out of the bottom! I don't think UPS used to be that bad, I wonder what happened to them. Jamos will replace 1975 vintage Cerwin Vega CV-23s I refurbed and converted to 3-way around 10 years ago. Jamos will go on a VSX-31 with a Bic V-1220 sub... assuming they don't have to go back! This is a great group, glad to be on here.

I agree with Afro on this.I was the one who got the ebay deal on my dark apple C603's and they sound great.I unhooked my S506 towers and put the C603 on top of them and ran them as my mains to break them in for about a month.I was very impressed by there sound quality and ability to handle what ever I through at them.Keep an eye on audiogon, two different pair's of C803's were sold in the past two week's.I only saw the price on the black pair at 395 that was a good deal.

Has anyone heard the in-wall 400 series compared to the inwall 600 series. I know the iw600 series is a step up, but I wanted to here anyone's input on the two. I know the 600 series has a silk dome tweeter and the 400 series is titanium. Prefer the silk dome as I already have the c603's and c601's. Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi sfrichey, Did you say anything in particular to convince them to give you the old price? I called today also, but they wouldn't give me the $399 price.

I just told them "they are $399 on your Ebay listing", Josh at Vanns went on Ebay and said they are $449, I told him "I checked yesterday evening and they were $399", he looked at their sales and saw 3 sets purchased the previous day at $399 and he said they were not going to penalize me for 12 hours difference so sold them to me for $399. It could be they give you a certain # hours grace on a price change, but no more. Or, like a lot of places, it depends on who you talk to! Bummer!

Hi, I have C603's in front with the C60 cen and C601's for surrounds, all powered by a Pioneer Elite VSX 03THX. Oh yeah and the sub300.

I have been thinking of getting the C803's for up front as an upgrade, if it really is an upgrade. They are still available at Amazon. They seem almost the same except for the woofer size. Does anyone know if the 803's would produce a noticeable difference?

I'm totally happy with my set-up but I don't mind beefing things up when I can.
Thanks, enjoying the thread!

For 2-channel music listening, yes. For movie watching, I doubt you'll notice much difference. Besides, if you change to C803s, then you should technically change your center speaker to C80 as well for proper timbre-matching across the entire front sound stage.

Have any of you replaced the isolation cones on the outriggers for your S606 towers (or other models)? The ones provided work just fine, but I was thinking about swapping them out for some with a nicer finish, purely for asthetic purposes. I think something in gold or at least something with a shiny finish rather than the dull metal of those provided would look nice. There are tons of isolation cones/spikes out there that I could probably make work if I could find caps or attractive bolts threaded properly to use on the top. That said, it would be nice to just find some complete replacements. So far I've only found the ones from soundicity.com that are more expensive than it's worth to me (rather buy more expensive speakers than spend a couple hundred bucks on isolation cones). I'd like to find some in the same price range as those on parts-express, etc. that would not require extra hardware to use.

Thanks

Vanns just got some c-80 cens in stock, dark apple which would match the rest of my C-80s. Vanns's price is about $43.00 cheaper than Digital.

I asked Vanns last week if they shipped to Canada (no answer yet) Digital will ship to Canada. Having no answer from Vanns it looks like Digital will get my business (i'll mention Vanns price just to see if they might reduced their price to match).

I can live quite well with a black center as it would meld into the rest of my audio gear/tv (all black)

S606's came yesterday, appear physically undamaged although there were gouges in the box and as the UPS guy was bringing them up to the door, the box fell off the dolly and landed on the ground. I have a couple questions though... The outriggers have some half-spherical plastic thingies, are those for wood floors? I have carpet, so if for wood will store them away. Also, it looks like the center comes with 3 rubber feet, I guess put two in the front and one in the back?

You're lucky. I had two sets come from Vann's and both were damaged, they won't send me another.

Yes the outriggers are for wood floors. You should have received 6 of the rubber feet.
The rubber feet are for if you want to angle your center speaker. I have the same center I used two rubber feet in front to angle it up toward the main listening area. You don't have to use them at all.

They can also be used to decouple the speaker from the surface it is resting on. In that case I guess you can use two in front and one in back.

More importantly, how do they sound?
Thanks guys, I'm using the spikes because I have carpet with padding... the spikes go down to the concrete so the speakers sit level and don't wobble, in that way they are working great! Center is on a glass shelf, I put 2 rubber stickons under the front , one in back. Together with the V-1220 sub, they sound a whole lot better than my old Cerwin Vegas (that sat on bar stools ;-) and RCA center. I do think the high freqs are subdued but I hope that as they break in the sound will become brighter. I did not have time to run the MCACC last night so the vsx-31 is using the old settings. My listening room is the typical modern home theater disaster layout... Great Room with no walls between the tv room, breakfast room, kitchen, dining room, and living room, sloping ceiling 19 feet high in the middle. Probably around 500 cubic feet of space behind the listening couch. I'm still scratching my head over surround placement... no way to place them the right distance or height or even equally from the listening position. arrgh!

That would be a problem, you need to rerun MCACC again as soon as possible.
