HD-D2 audio volume low via HDMI cable

When I watch movies on my HD-D2 player the volume is a bit lower than when watching cable TV (hooked up with component cables) and when playing my Xbox 360 (also hooked up with component cables). I don't know if its a normal thing but I always have to raise the volume on my TV another 15 notches or so when using the HDMI input mode to watch HD DVD's. I don't have any surround sound system. I just use my TV for sound (for now atleast). Its not nearly intolerable but just would like to know if its normal. Thanks in advance.
