Best Buy finally get's the DMP-10A!

...noticed earlier today that the warehouse received stock. I stopped by a local store and placed order. Salesman said that he took 1 other order today, and two pre orders yesterday. The pickup date for all of us shows the same on the computer. 7-17! Why are they making us wait so long? Apparently if you order on-line, and pay for express shipping, you'll have it before the end of the week. If you do it in the store, you gotta wait until after the weekend. When i asked about the chances of the machine arriving to the store sooner than the expected date, he said that all orders allways arrive on the expected date. What's up with that?!

Just checked BB and they still show in-stock. However delivery is 7/16. What I'm still skeptical about is nowhere on their site does it mention the 5-free BDs in the box. CircuitCity does.

Someone else reported it was out of stock lastnite. I think all Pannys are coming with the 5 free movies. I would not worry and just order one... They will be in there...

This has no merit what soever, but I was talking to a buddy that just got out of college who got one on the first run at the end of June. After he heard about the 5 mail in BD's he went back to the store to return it and re-buy it. The people at customer service in Best Buy said that if he returned it, they wouldn't be able to resell it to him because they had been recalled. They assumed it was to take out the free movies. I talked to him this weekend, but take this info with a grain of salt.

Goes to show you BB doesn't have a clue about its products. No where has it been reported the Panny has been recalled.

Wasn't my Best Buy, it was his! I know that its probably not true but I just wanted to put that out there.

The BB web site says that they usually ship next business day. I added one to my cart and go these weird zip code does not match state error messages. Sounds like they have recently completed a "software upgrade." Has anybody had much luck ordering the DMP10A from from their web site?

EDIT:

I went back and tried again with a different browser this morning and was able to get an order through. Hopefully, it will ship within the next business day as the site says.

Another Update:

I already got a shipping acknowledgment from BB even though I just placed my order this morning. They seem to have stock. And from another thread the included moveis are:

The movies in the box are:
POTC: Curse of the Black Peark
POTC: Dead Man's Chest
Fantastic Four
Transporter
Crash

Can't wait now.

Hi Miata,

Congrats on your purchased, can you give as a feedback which one you prefer most the s300 or the panny? I just bought the panny with BB also but don't have the s300. I sure some of as here will be eager to know what you decide to keep.

Thnks,
Peter

I was one of the lucky ones. I got mine at BB about 3 weeks ago. It's an awesome player. I'm really glad I got the Pany instead of the Sony!

can anyone answer this? Will this player be compliant with all the specs after October 31st? can this be accomplished with a firmware update?
Everything I've read says that the current players will be backwards compatible with the new specs -- even if you don't get some new features you will still be able to continue using the current functionality with new titles. If you are paranoid about keeping up with the latest specs in the current AV world you will be waiting forever -- and never purchase anything. There will always be something new on the horizon.

i was asking whether you'll be able to access PiP along with other features related to the java mandate starting October 31st. Obviously it is still going to play movies, but if menus are choppy and take forever to load (like they do with pirates of the caribbean), then it is a pain in the butt.

You must own a bad unit my load times are all great.

What makes the panasonic better than the rest? OR is it? I too want to know if it will be compliant w/ the "october specs". I've been holding off, i want all the bells and whistles and don't really need a ps3, though it is cheaper, so i may go that route.

I doubt any of the current standalone BD players will support the new 1.1 profile in November. Check around the forum. There's lots of speculation.

Based one what I read in the profiles thread I would not expect the PIP stuff to be supported by this player. I have no interest in PIP, so that is not a concern for me. PIP seems like one of those things that will be kinda need at first, but after a few titles you will want to go back to just the voice over. I'm sure that this is a personal preference. All these attempts to make HD more interactive has actually made the user experience suffer. Both the HD-XA2 and the Sony BDP-300 that I currently have are a PITA to simply search scenes with HD titles -- they over shoot, etc.. SD DVD titles provide a much better "interactive experience" on either of these players. So, I for one, am not looking forward to more "HD interactive upgrades."

Today my daughter and I went to PetCo to look at hampsters and right accross the street was the Warwick, Rhode Island Best Buy. So on a whim I went in and asked for a BD10A. The web site said they had none, but it was wrong! I got the last one!

Time to go hook it up...

I wasn't attacking anyone, I was just saying what I had heard. It sounds like the player was recalled, maybe to update firmware or something, but not to take out the movies. I have both players, as I am sick of this format war.
