Integra DTC-9.8 Not the Latest Firmware

Sony Bdp-S300 With Lastest firmware

Connected through HDMI

Why doesnt the DTC 9.8 show that its Rec. a Dolbly True HD signal or DTS MA???

On the Audio setup of the 3 yrs old blu-ray Player ive got it set to Auto, when Playing Dolby True it just says Dobly Digital and on DTS MA it just says DTS without the MA being light up.....

When i set the Audio to PCM instead of Auto, it displays Multichannel?? Since my S300 cant send HD bitstream is it better to select PCM

I read this Interesting article.....http://www.ultimateavmag.com/content...io-and-hdmi-13
Accd. to this article, its the Inability of the BR Player to tranmit HD code over HDMI Bitstream

-------->>>> In answering my own question, A New BR Player is Needed, LOL

Thanx in Advance for any answers and Sorry if its been answered already

I am considering to maybe just put a dac between the apple tv and the integra. I like the apple tv and all you can do with it and if I put a dac. Than the sound would be better although even right now it sounds pretty good as is.
I will look more into the dune streamer but you have to purchase something else for it to do you tube pandora etc??

Correct and it is still the "latest." IIRC, it is version 1.08.

Why not just use the Integra as a dac?

That's what I wanted to do I was told the integra would not upsample it? If so how ?

You do need to purchase playon as the Dune does not natively handle those. If you are primarily using the Dune to handle local media, you are fine, but if you want to use it primarily for internet sourced streams, then the Dune is a poor solution.

Yeah I do not have that much material and I like using Internet sources. I just noticed the apple tv can be jailbroken and with xbmc can play all types of music including flac at it's high bitrate through the apple tv.

The intergra should handle it fine, directly.
I have a feeling my Integra is suffering from a bad HDMI board...it seems to 'blank out' from time to time, regardless of source, and on some sources seems to lose sync and the resolution displayed goes wacky until the next 'blank out.' I need to do some more troubleshooting (like bypassing the Integra, changing input types, etc.) to be more certain about the true source of the problem, but thought I would ask if anyone knows about how much I'd be looking at for a repair of this type (assuming I'm on the right track). I am the second owner of the unit, and I'm sure it must be out of warranty, so I'd be footing the bill. Depending on how much I'd be spending it might be time to look for another pre/pro to go with the ol' Parasound. If anybody has a general idea on the cost of replacing the HDMI board, I'd appreciate you sharing it...

Thanks!
Randy

wow Randy...it is gonna be about 400. just for the brd if my memory serves me correct !
why don't you get the receipt from the previous owner and use that for the Onk/Int warranty service ? OOOORRRRR...did he purchase an ext'd warranty ? Find out, we are an authorized servicer here in CC..78411

I know it handles the signal from the appletv but will it upsample the signal with it's dacs

Maybe I dont understand your question. I have the Onkyo Pro clone of the 9.8 and I dont think it upsamples any digital audio source. What i do know is that using a high end DAC ( example, Benchmark) to feed the pre-pro unit is disappointing since it requires using the analog input on the pre-pro, which sounds worse than just relying on the pre-pro's DAC via digital input.

Thanks, Alan...I will try. Confidence is low, however. If I am right and can't go the warranty route it sounds like I'll live with it until I want to try something new. I appreciate the reply...

My trusty DTC-9.8 suddenly stopped working for HDMI inputs. I have 3 input devices and all 3 get a "No Signal" message when I switch to each one. I verified that the sources work by plugging then directly into the TV.

I am afraid a power outage or something damaged the HDMI portion of the DTC-9.8. I can see that non-HDMI sources (analog) seem to be working. All the normal setup menus, etc. seem to function.

When I switch to an HDMI device, I see the HDMI indicator blink for a few second and then the "No Signal" message comes up on the screen.

Please let me know if you have a way to troubleshoot this problem.

1. try doing a hardware reset
2. update firmware
3. check your hdmi resolution settings in the menu, set it to "through" for now to see if that makes a diff
4. upgrade to an 80.1 - you can get one pre owned for about $1200 used and the sound quality is vastly improved over the 9.8
5. call integra if 1-3 above do not work to verify if it is a hardware issue or not. Repair would probably run you about $200 or so if not under warranty (wild as$ guess, it could be as much as $400-$500 depending on what broke)

6. Do you own a good AVR power conditioner? If not, shame on you go buy one now! Look for a tripp lite HT7300 - excellent for running amps through as well. http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Iso.../dp/B0018BQQDK

Or at least the HT1210: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...2YTAQ594NDFRH0

Or at very very least the HT810: http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-HT8.../ref=pd_cp_e_2

I just did the reset (held down the standby & DVR/VCR) until the clear came on.

I also unplugged the unit for a while (20 min). The firmware was at 1.08 already. I may try a reload just to see if that helps, but I guess I will be taking it for repair. I am local to you (West LA) - so Sound Precision Service is down in Santa Monica as the next step.

BTW, these were plugged into a PS Audio Premier and that was nudged and shut off abruptly. I think that is the cause of the issue, but I can't be sure.

I hope so too. I am looking at DHC 80.1 units as well - not sure of the going price, but I will see what I can find about them.

The full story is that my Dish VIP 622 is dying - now that I think about it, it crashed a number of times and it could have sent out a really terrible signal over the HDMI. I could see how this might fry the HDMI chip and render the board toast.

The Dish folks are sending a new DVR, but I don't think they will cover the repair to the DTC 9.8.

Thanks for your input.

mamsterla,
Please update us (or PM me, if you prefer) on how things turn out. My problems aren't as bad, but I fear they are heading that way and I'd like to know what they quote to fix your Integra...

Thanks,
Randy

Check audiogon.com for going rates on a pre-owned 80.1 - I don't know if you're looking for the amplified version (DTR-80.1) or the separate processor version (DHC-80.1), but either are going for around $1200 used. There is actually a fantastic deal on a DHC-80.2 with matching 9ch DTA-70.1 for like $3k I saw listed there the other day, guy is in Malibu.

Outside of that check with Bill at soundvideoautomation.com in Irvine. Tell him Kurt referred you. Very nice guy, Integra dealer, I have bought all of my Integra gear from him over the years.

Oh and do consider switching to DirecTV, blows doors on Dish any day of the week on picture, sound quality, avail HD channels, and features of the DVR. Plus they have a huge selection of free VOD movies and TV shows. The home networking feature is sick!

did u purchase the 5 yr ext'd warranty or could it still b under the 3 yr factory guarantee ?
I have been reading extensively about the 9.8 and it seems that the HDMI board is the main component which has the highest failure rate.

It will be interesting to know if there is a correlation between those who use the onboard video processor and the high failure rates. The reon processor does cause the unit to generate a lot of heat hence coupled with a poorly ventilated unit can result in fissures on the materials on the HDMI boards and other boards.
Also those who have their units tightly packed in a rack with average ventilation may have also contributed to the deterioration of the boards and associated materials over the last few years.
There may also have been a bad batch of boards made and those who have been inflicted seek to report and the ones who have not occasionaly drop a line and tell everyone there unit is working well.
Just a thought

Can anyone over there in the USA source me an Integra logo badge like the one on the top left front panel of 9.8. The badge has prongs on it so If anyone has bricked theirs or can get one for me it will be greatly appreciated.
I suppose the badge on the 9.9 through to the 80.2 is much the same.
I will fully reimburse you for any costs incurred.

Edit. Located piece here locally.

Got delivery of the unit yesterday.

I am very familiar with Auddysey having owned Denon's and Marantz in the past.

I have a 7.1 system. I noted despite setting the presets in the menus

as DD pl 11x for Dolby and Neo 6 for DTS. I have the following issue.

With any of the lossy DD or DTS sound codecs I get sound in my rear surrounds.

However with the 5.1 lossless fromats ie DTS MA or DD True HD their is no

sound in the rear surrounds. In order to get it I have to toggle using the remote

and chose one of the surround modes eg DD ex or neo6 and then I get sound in the rears.

Is this normal? If so I suppose I can live with it.

Hi all,

I've had my dtc-9.8 for at least 4 years now, no problems, but firmware check today shows 1.02. I've been unable to locate the firmware posted anywhere, and even draw a blank at the Integra web site. It says I registered the unit, but doesn't lead to the firmware. I've tried other forums, but the link is so old, not posted anymore.

Could someone please send a link to the latest (1.08?) firmware?

Thanks,

thomed

I have a copy of the 1.08 update files but they are on the computer in my other house. (I have only the 1.05 updates here.) If no one sends a link, send me a PM with your email address and I can send the files to you.

Yeah, I'm in the same situation.

Seems this might be a common issue. I posted this to the PR-SC885 forum also, but since the 9.8 is the same, I thought I would post here also.

I have a PR-SC885 that is having what I think is switching problems. It seems to intermittently causing a problem. I'll try and layout the issue - but curious if anyone else has had this issue. I've checked all connections and it's paired with a JVC RS25.

1. It displays this picture after swtiching from one source to the next.

2. It will recognize the source and I DO get AUDIO, just a jumbled picture.

3. I have HDMI running from all sources to the Pre/Pro - so it's HDMI only.

4. Sometime it won't even recognize the source at all and I don't even get a jumbled picture.

5. If I turn off the Pre/Pro and come back an hour or so later - it finds the source and everything is fine. However, if I then switch to another source say an hour or so later the switching doesn't pick up the new source and I get a jumbled picture.

Again, I've tested and checked all cables and they are snug.

Thanks for any insight. It might just be the switching is going bad.
