The Official INTEGRA DTC-9.8 Thread - Page 431

Well it's here and of course it happens at a bad time. My Integra 9.8 has the video issues that I've read about. The green screen, frozen screen but the audio works. I have a newer Bluray player that has two HDMI outputs so I sent one too the Integra and one to the TV for now. I loose the other components which includes two HD Directv units and they will be missed since I save a lot of video on them.

I will upgrade to the 80.3 I guess and was wondering if anyone has a good line on a place to purchase one, PM me please.

I wouldn't mind fixing the 9.8 since I've never had any other problems with it but I'm not going to sink much money into it.

I own a 9.9 after owning a 9.8. You should be aware that the 80.3 has no FM tuner.

The 80.3 has an FM tuner. It doesn't have a built-in HD Radio tuner.

My apologies. I equate the two for obvious reasons. This seemed to me a cheapening of the device.

Question: Where can I find a Control4 driver for my DTC-9.8? I'm still using it in the family room and my dealer didn't have the correct driver so he used one that was similar. I googled it and searched the control4 forums but couldn't find anyone that had the correct driver. I figure I'm a regular on this site so maybe one of my fellow 9.8 users might have a good one?

Thanks in advance!

Has anybody out there run a Darbee Darblet from their 9.8 to a projector/display device? I do not currently have issues with the 9.8 passing a signal direct to my Epson 6010 PJ but I am trying to find out if there is anything to be aware of when connecting this 'tweener' box into the chain?

I received a Darblet today, which is producing no picture, but neither is it showing a flashing green light to indicate micro-processor 'normal' operation. I know this issue in itself is for the Darblet thread, but I am particularly keen to eliminate the Integra from my inquiry if I can do so. (The 9.8 is not a piece of equipment I would like to repair/replace in the short term if at all possible.)

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/experiences.

I have the darblet between my 9.8 and my jvc rs-2, no problems here and loving it.

you could also eliminate the 9.8 by temporarily connecting the darblet between your bd player and the projector directly, just to check it.

Thanks so much for your reply, Ron. Actually the only way I can do it is to place the Darbee after my BD player and before the 9.8. The Integra just doesn't want to play ball on the outbound HDMI. It's no serious hassle presently because my cinema is only for movie playback. I will, however, contact Integra and see if there is a way round it because I would like to switch HD DVD too.

How many owners here are still enjoying their 9.8 and have no issues so far?

I'm still very happy with my unit.

I just meant temporarily, even without sound, just to see if the darblet works at all.

but if you can't get it to go with the integra, maybe you could use an hdmi switcher (like from monoprice, with ir remote) to connect both players to the darblet and then output the darblet to the 9.8.

After I fixed my HDMI Board and another repair for the EEPRom issue under warranty a while back. All is well again and running great. I'm looking hard at the 80.3 or maybe the next generation to come out next. Whenever that is.

I'm still enjoying it once I bypass the Epromm error.
Looking into to an upgrade for this year almost 6 years with the 9.8.cool.gif

I'm still happy with my unit - even though it won't let me turn it up all the way! I haven't seen anyone else complain about this, but I have a 400wpc (800 watts into 4 ohms) sunfire amp connected to it, via xlr, and above about -10db (iirc) or so, it won't get any louder! If I remember right, the numbers keep going up, but the volume does not change! I think I posted about this long ago in this thread, but like I said, no one else seems to have seen this issue.

It gets to a decent volume, so I've dealt with it, but other than that I've been happy with it.

Have you checked the volume limit function? It may be set to -10db. However, if the "numbers" do continue to change after turning it up, this would not be the problem.

thanks, I know about this setting, and double-, triple-, probably quadruple-checked it. I'll look again, but I think the volume/db indicator numbers do keep changing, I want to say up to +10db or something like that. Excuse my faulty memory, I'll take a look at it tonight, but I don't expect any fix or it to behave any differently. I just hope the 80.3 or similar doesn't have this problem...

I have read many of the posts in this thread and can only determine bits and pieces of my problem and solution. I apologize in advance, but could someone please answer my questions

Is there a known problem with the 9.8 and the HDMI video card? If so what is the solution?

If I get the video card replaced, is the new video card updated and will it prevent this problem?

Here is what happened to me:

Integra 9.8 works great for years. Mostly stream video from an AIOS video streamer. NO Problems.

I have an Oppo BDP-80 Blu Ray player and I rarely use it. I was watching a Blu Ray from Red Box (Argo) and 10 minutes before the end of the movie the scene freezes, but the audio keeps going forward. I turn of all units, and unplug and switch video sources on the Integra. Now its not a clear frozen image. It is all garbled. I call Integra the next morning and the problem fixes itself. Integra says it was probably a HDMI handshaking issue and letting it be off all night probably reset it.

I also suspect that it overheated. Even though I have a fan in my cabinet with a temp gauge and it never gets over 90 degrees F.

It goes for 2 weeks and the unit works fine, although I am mostly using the AIOS. I put in a Blu Ray (Killing them Softly) and the same thing happens! This time I video the problem on my iPhone so I can show people. It can be viewed here (for 7 days) http://www.fileconvoy.com/dfl.php?id=g55cedaa1132b05c69992630241cc4871af5cfa76d

However the next day I keep the video cabinet doors open and watch another Blu Ray (Zero Dark Thirty) and it plays fine the whole way through. Coincidence on the cabinet door open? The temp gauge still gets to 90 degrees even with the doors open.

I have an extended warranty that covers up to $600 in repairs on this and call the authorized service center. They watch the video I took and say "Your video card is going out and needs to be replaced". I ordered one as its on backorder.

Is this the right solution?

Are all of my firmwares current?

I had a similar issue with my Onkyo 885 (same processor). I would get multi colored pixcels on the screen, failure to sync, etc. This is a know issue with the HDMI boards from this era and affects the receivers more than the processors but it sounds like your unit has developed the fault. The cause is that the capacitors on the video board were substandard and not rated to handle the heat generated by the unit. Onkyo "fixed" mine a few years back out of warranty but at no cost by replacing the bad caps. There is a thread about the Onkyo HDMI repair on this forum that discusses how many have done their own repair, but better to have Onkyo fix it for you if you can. It is heat related and you can try fan cooling the processor by sucking air through the unit from above the video board. I do this now as a precaution and my unit never gets warm where it used to be pretty hot. From what I understand, the replcement caps can handle the heat, I just prefer the extra cooling. Mine has had no problems since the repair. Good luck.
