Martin Logan Owners Thread - Page 25

Hello everybody!

I am at it again. I am looking at buying some Martin Logan Source's. However, I have some concerns with powering them. ML has a power rating of 20-400 Watts at 5 ohms. Thats allot of watts!

I have everything running of my Marantz SR5008 Reciver providing the power for two Motion 12's and a motion 8. Can it handle adding these things? Marantz have it rated at 140 Watts at 6 ohms.

These sources seem to be a really good deal. "I just wish he had the boxes." : /

It depends on how big your room is. My room is 13ft W x 20ft L x 8ft H and I ran my ML ElectroMotion ESL (6ohm), ML Source (5ohm), and Encore TF (4ohm) off an ancient Marantz SR7200 (110 watts @ 8ohm) for 2 years just fine before I bought a separate 5 channel amp. If you have a large room the receiver might struggle a little bit or get warm. You should be fine generally speaking unless you really like to crank it.

The room it will be in is fairly small. Its Total Vol is 1,400 Sq.ft. I am just wondering if my receiver will be enough to enjoy them. With out risking the receiver in anyway.

I would prefer some Purity's because they are powered. But I doubt I am going to be able to find any for anything close to the price I could get these. I am hoping to pick up the sources for $500. They don't have boxes or anything but they look like they are in pristine shape.

Hi guys, Best Buy has the Martin Logan motion 40's open box for $1163.00.
Is that a good deal?

Thanks

Sounds like a good deal to me provided they're in good shape. I bet you would have a hard time finding a good set used for less.

I think you'll be fine. My room is about the same size and I run my montis off of a denon avr-x4000. Never runs out of pore and is not too warm at all.

Hey everyone. I'm new to the Martin Logan speakers. I am looking to upgrade my system. I'm thinking of going with the ESL's and the Motif X. Is that too much center speaker for those fronts? I won't get a chance to listen to the pair before I buy. Wondering if anyone has that setup or if I should go with the Electromotion C2 center? Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

What do mean by too much? It won't be too loud and overpower them if that's what you mean.

If the extra cost isn't an issue for you, absolutely go with the Motif. It's a fantastic center channel.
That being said, the Electromotion C2 is great as well and you'd probably be happy with either one. But the Motif is just that much better.

I have the EM ESL's and a Motif (not the X version though) and it blends right in with the EM ESL's just fine. I've not heard a C2 to compare though.
