Morning all,
Apologies for the dual post, I posted this originally into a 30-page thread about an unrelated subject. Many thanks to OldPainless68 for your speedy response by the way!
I'm looking to replace my big, bulky and noisy MCE PC with a nice quiet Media streamer. All it needs to do is play DIVX, XVID, VOB and MPG video, WAV and MP3 audio (FLAC would be nice but not essential), JPG and BMP stills (slideshow nice but not essential) - same as my old MCE box. For futureproofing it'd be nice if it could play BluRay/DVD HD rips but again is not a dealbreaker. Oh and HDMI out.
What IS a dealbreaker is that it (a) works well wirelessly, (b) can stream from a 2Tb NAS and (c) keeps the same folder structure as is set up on the NAS (I've split my movies into genres).
My top three solutions are (in descending order), the LimHD200i, the NetGear EVA8000 and the Kiss DP-1600. The specs for all seem (note *seem*) almost identical. The only reason the Kiss is there is because it has a DVD player but I'm not fussed with that. The EVA8000 was my favourite until I saw the LimHD200i. Now that is SERIOUSLY sexy!! And my first choice by a mile simply due to the aesthetics. However I need to be sure it can do what I need it to.
So - after the long and rambling scene-setter, my questions:
1. As a UK resident is there anywhere in the UK even selling them? Getting it imported concerns me slightly (only slightly) with regard to shipping and aftercare (like if it goes bang and needs to be returned).
2. There is nothing in the spec about wifi. What sort of wifi adapters are you guys attaching this box to make it work and how does it perform? Also what specific routers are you using and how do different ones affect performance?
3. Is it OK streaming from a NAS wirelessly, and does it see the folder structure or do you need to set up a database?
Many thanks in advance for your help, guys.
Cheers
Jon
