Need some feedback/Help on setting this up - Noob install

Gear:

Philips 50" Plasma 50PF7321D/37
Yamaha HTIB YHT-380
DVD - LG DN798

I am so lost and confused on what connections to set this up.
I hope this is the right forum for this thread.

Goal is to use the DVD player to upconvert and all sound weather cable, movie comes out of the reciever.
I think cable is just basic coax wired into the apt.

I hope the gear is good, its what I have to deal with.
I was thinking to use HDMI from the dvd to tv.
Then use the TV sound Digital out to the Digital In on the reciever under the (DVD connections).

I should be able to to just leave the reciever on "DVD" and just change the a/v mode for DVD and tv and all sound should come out of the reciever.????
