Ok so this will be my first DIY screen. I picked up a ~4 by ~8 foot piece of Do-able board that I plan on using. I haven't decided on the final size of my screen, it will be somewhere between 80" and 100" diagonally.
I just have a couple questions. First off, for widescreen format, what is the best aspect ratio to use. 16:9 or 2.35:1. Since my projector is native 16:9 I think that would be best, and if I play a 2.35:1 movie I can just use masking on the top and bottom? Forgive me if I'm completely wrong in that thinking.
My second question is very amateur-ish. I believe the reason for mounting the screen material (the Do-able) on to a wooden frame is so I dont have to glue the material directly to the wall and also, obviously, so I don't put nails or screws directly into the material. So is that the only reason for having a wooden frame? Or are there other benefits? Thank you.
*edit* I've been researching how people mount this and apparently with Do-Able you do not need a wooden frame behind it. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post6720550 in the 4th post down Rahl shows his way of mounting it using mirror-bracket things. He then put a wood frame around it that was painted matte black. This would help out too when it comes to masking off letterbox bars as I could have mounts on the wooden frame for easy masking placement.
