Detroit Two of the first car dealerships to jump on the HD-Radio bandwagon are Dick Genthe's Chevrolet, based here, and Dallas-based David McDavid Automotive Group.

Dick Genthe's Chevrolet is promoting a free HD Radio with the purchase of a used car on several local HD-Radio stations owned by Greater Media Detroit.

Consumers are directed to a Web site where they can download a coupon for a free HD Radio receiver (including installation) with the purchase of any used car at the dealership, while supplies last, through Aug. 31.

Other HD-Radio stations are expected to join forces with local HD-Radio stations in similar promotions, said the HD Digital Radio Alliance.

In addition, David McDavid Automotive Group announced it is the first dealership in Texas to sell HD Radios. HD Radio will be sold at all seven of the company's dealerships, it said.

That's pretty awesome, and I hope it gets the manufacturers to take note - people would like HD Radios in their cars.

It sucks that so far only BMW and Jaguar are offering them as an option in new cars. I hope that expands significantly before my next automotive purchase

I would like to see the manufacturers simply installing them standard. It is well known that if they get it in their car they will want to buy one for the home. And I think vice versa, if they try them at home and like it they will most likely look for this in their car at some point in the near future.

Remember, car dealers, the less the customer has to pay for radio reception, the more he has available for buying a better (more expensive) car. So, (pay-by-the-month) satellite radio is really not in the dealers' best interest.
