New Line To Release On Blu-ray...Finally!!

New Line told indie retailers today that Hairspray would be their first high def release on Blu-ray and HD DVD. But that's about it. No competing press conference between the two camps like last year, no Blu-ray lounge from Sony as there was last year.

New Hairspray...

Cool.
I like this line...

"Blu-ray backers Disney, Sony, Fox and Lionsgate are throwing them a party Tuesday night..."

Really...? Fox...? Why bother...?

Time to release some DAMNED titles already!

Yea, um, can we please have us some Lord of the Rings, or the first 2 Blades, Seven, or Boogie Nights, or Magnolia, or Pan's Labyrinth? Sorry, but Hairspray does absolutely nothing for me. I already hate Travolta as he is, let alone in a fat suit dressed as a woman.

Tell us how you really feel.

I saw one clip of travolta's acting in that fat suit.

one clip and it haunts me still.
It will continue to haunt me for the rest of my days.

most disturbing thing I have had the misfortune of seeing in a long time. I don't see how this movie can't bomb. and I'm a huge Waters fan.

I'll pass on that movie, but it's good to know that they're finally going to start producing titles.

I was told that Rush Hour 3 was going to be their first Blu-ray release, but it looks like Hairspray will beat it. I too am glad that New Line is finally releasing on Blu-ray.

Looks like New Line has absolutely zero idea of who the target audience is for high def material.

Hairspray? What is that a joke?
The best thing is to release all new titles day-and-date. More important that reaching into the past to even big titles.
Well, It's not exactly what I wanted to hear but I guess it's a start.

Two words: Dark City.

At least they won't be releasing on THD.
Sneak preview here in NYC the other night. Heard LOTS of bad things. The Broadway show was really good and the movie has a helluva cast but...meh.

And to the person who asked if they knew what the target audience was, I guess he doesn't own Chicago? Cause I sure as hell do.
I almost gasped because the first thing that came into my mind was the original... then the afterthought that a remake was made was quite anticlimactic.

I guess it's a start. But still, the movie hasn't even been released on theaters so we'll be expecting New Line midyear next year?

Can you imagine how hard Blade would rock with lossless audio??
Where's PL??

I'll buy it just so New Line will release more films.

Do it New Line I dare you. You wont believe how fast, up to, $120 will fly out of my wallet. Now to find 14 straight hours to marathon in hd.

7.1 PCM. Come on.

I wonder who is in charge for picking releases?
Well they have to start with something so I guess this is it. From here on out though I hope all New Line releases are in High Def.

I was under the impression that the last thing they wanted to do was put $ in Peter Jackson's pocket (apparently it became personal to the head honcho ).

Oh yeah, can't wait for Dark City. One of my all time favorites

Another vote for Dark City.
If this is the Hairspray that opens at theaters this week and the rumor is true, this would seem to indicate that it will be a few months before we see anything from New Line. I wouldn't expect less than 3-4 months from theatrical release to disc release.

This is great news. Newline have plenty of movies i'd like to add to my collection.
As for Peter Jackson and the LOTR movies, he deserves all the accolades he gets. These are some of the best movies of all time. Absolutely can't wait for these to be announced

Agreed, I want LOTR and Blade. However, Pan's Labyrinth is available in Europe on HD DVD. And there was a nice 1080p25 17Mbit/s h264 broadcasting of Blade 1 in UK recently.

actually doing surprisingly well on rt.com...

It's one of the best Broadway-tuner adaptations in recent years -- yes, arguably even better than those Oscar-winning ones. Unpretentious, feel-good pic is low on histrionic diva wailing and MTV-style editing, high on retro movie-musical craftsmanship.

Well, I guess we will finally see whether New Line is following Warner in the mediocre PQ realm.
