Panasonic DMRES15

Thread Starter
I have only had my Panasonic DVD recorder since Christmas and last night during a recording it showed an on-screen message warning me that the recording had stopped due to a dirty, scratched or damaged disc. It said the recorder would shut down and then be restarted and a new disc should be inserted. During this time error code U61 appeared on the DVD display.

This has happened in the past with Infiniti DVD-R discs but since then I have always used Panasonic DVD-RW without any trouble....until last night. On inserting a fresh disc and closing the tray the recorder then made a horrible two-tone clunk sound and no disc could then be read. I have tried numerous types of disc including CDs and no disc can now be read.

Each time I close the tray it makes the horrible clunking sound.

PLEASE HELP

Carolyn.

I have no specific knowledge of this problem but if it were mine I would hold the Wake tonight and the Funeral tomorrow. It is unlikely a fairly low cost machine like that is worth fixing. I would go looking for the current Panasonic equivalent model to replace it. All those bad sounds is what scares me. If it had died silently then maybe there would be hope. But with noises like that coming out of the machine, probably some mechanical component has come loose inside the drive.

Edit- if you have the sales receipt and know what the warranty period is, it might be worthwhile to check with Panasonic or the seller to see what they recommend.

If you bought it last Christmas, it should still be under warranty. Give Panasonic CS a call.
