I didnt hate Pearl Harbor as much as most people. and the directors cut is better if you like war movies. Why didnt they release the DC on blu-ray, I wont watch the PG-13 version again and therefore will not buy it.

the dir cut is a waste of time and is cheesy, the footage doesn't fit at all

I love gore as much as the next person but it just didn't fit in Pearl Harbor. That said, you gotta love Tom Sizemore's "Slant-eyed c***suckers!" line.

there were some nice graphic shots in the battle scene but nothing else really changed. even if it were cheesy I couldnt live with myself if i didnt get the best version.

Then hopefully the studio that owns Tora Tora Tora spends the effort to come up with an excellent new master and selectively replaces some of its special effects with CGI.

Other than providing some nice footage of Kate Beckinsale (ohhh that red dress), Pearl Harbor is one of my least favorite WWII flicks. There is no need to make a movie about Pearl Harbor more exciting. Tora Tora Tora is a far better movie and far more interesting due to the fact that the film had both an American and a Japanese director. Give it a try if you are a war movie buff and havent seen it.

It's obvious most of you dislike the movie, so why even post?

For those of us who do, it's a crying shame the Director's Cut isn't available on BR; that's the one title that would finally get me to jump into the BR pool to buy the disc and a player.

The Director's Cut is, IMHO, a much, much better film than the theatrical release. The deletion of the "campfire" scene is worthy, the "additional gore" frankly reflects the true effect of the guns on the planes would do when hitting a human as opposed to ships or aircraft.

I'm not sure why Buena Vista wouldn't just stick with the "Vista Series" release in this case.

is this a joke ?

kucharsk, I do actually like PH, but the dir cut was a total joke, not really a dir cut at all because if I remember correctly, PH was made with PG-13 in mind, I could be wrong though

I'll bet it's not a joke...

I agree with Gary on the DC. When I got my 4-disc Vista version DC I also felt like the extra-violence (gore) didn't fit in, especially the decapitated head of one of the sailors. I still own the DC for some of the extras but the BD blows it away for movie pure movie presentation.

Pearl Harbor is one among the sharpest and colorful transfers in BD.

Uh, no.

The Director's Cut of PH better reflects the film Michael Bay set out to make (the PG-13 was done for Disney to increase the box office take) and is one of my favorite films. All of the footage in the Director's Cut was shot at filming time but was trimmed or not used to get the coveted rating.

The romance is a bit cheesy, but if you've ever listened to the commentary it's supposed to be; it reflects a World War II sensibility as opposed to some type of hip, post-modern take on things that people seemed to expect walking into the theater.

In fact, in my experience I've found the closer the age of those viewing to those who actually remember the attack, the greater their fondness for the film.

So no, no joke. A BR of the VIsta Edition of Pearl Harbor would have me buying the disc and a player on the same receipt.

I didn't buy because it wasn't the DC (which I have in a nice DVD edition).

I did select it as one of my free titles, provided that pans out. I'd buy a DC SE though.

With Transformers being a smash, there's definitely opportunity to capitalize.

And WB is already double-dipping with the Troy DC. Of course, that cut wasn't available in any form before, whereas it seems like we should have gotten a seamless branching version of PH.
