I HATE loud fans. I recently borrowed a friend's PS2 and I can hear the fan. I have not watched a movie on it but I think it would be considered acceptable.
Any comments on the PS3 compared to the PS2?
From my reading in the forums, it seems that it must be true that some units are louder than others for one reason or another. I guess if I decide to give one a try and I find it loud maybe I'll return it one time. After that, it is a no go for me.
I can vouch for the 360 being different by units. I've owned 2 so far. First one was very moderate and not very noticeable. It was replaced 3 months after launch and it is truly a jet engine. Seriously. I am planning on getting it replaced again, just haven't gotten around to it yet as I don't mind much during gaming and don't use it for DVDs, etc.
