XBOX or PS3?? Not starting a war!!

I don't want to start a war...If all you want to do is play sports games (Madden, NBA Live, etc.), which system is the best? I also would like to play Blu-Ray. I know the PS3 has it already as a part of the system, but I wouldn't mind buying separate. Any help is appreciated!
i think you answered your own question. If you are interested in BluRay then the obvious choice is PS3.
What system do your friends play on? Or plan on getting?
At the moment a lot of the sports games play better on the 360 (at the moment).
Also, you want to play blue-ray movies.

If you dont need the games to play the greatest available at this moment and you want blue ray then get the PS3. Note that even "the greatest available at this moment" is a bit lacking. I have been quite dissappointed with sports games on "next gen" so far.

Xbox 360 = 3 Rings of Death
or a 3 year warranty
X360 is the best platform for sports games, especially EA ones.
Since you mention Madden its worth noting the PS3 version will apparently run at 30fps and the 360 version at 60fps. IN addition there is no rumble in the PS3 version.

I'm pretty sure you don't need to be posting in the Xbox area.

Get the PS3. You'll get your sports games and Blu-Ray in one fancy-smancy device. If you cared only about the games, then I'd say go 360 as the games play slightly better than their PS3 counterparts, and the controller is ridiculously better.
360 = Better online, slightly better software (not much though), less expensive.
PS3 = Has Blu-ray player already in package, more reliable.

If you want the BD player anyway, you might as well get a PS3. However, if your friends have a 360, and you want to play with them, you'll obviously need a 360.
I have both 360 and PS3. I like my 360 better for gaming. For Blu-Ray, I like the PS3 better.

Just pick up the PS3 and be done with it, eventually the programers will learn how to use the cell processor and games like madden wont run at 30 fps instead of 60 fps like the 360. Espicallyl now you can pick one up cheaper than it was at launch.

The PS3 was $499 at launch. The PS3 is $499 now.

Anyway, I picked up my PS2 controller last night, and I just can't go back to it after using the XBox 360's controller. Everything about it feels wrong.

I loved the X-box controller since they first came out over the Playstation controller. I just can't believe that Sony couldn't change up the concept of their controller and make it more next gen with the PS3. And, on top of not changing the design, they took the rumble away

360: Lots of games, flawless online, available now for $399. Factor in $50 bucks or less for a years worth of LIVE gold, this is assuming you'll be playing those sports games online with voicechat and stuff.

PS3: *few* games, free but questionable online, BluRay player. $499 if you can find a 60gig, or $599 when the 60gigs disappear. Factor in $20-$40 for a bluetooth headset if you wanna chat online, assuming the game supports online, and supports a headset.

If you want to do gaming, 360. Its developers are deeper into the learning curve so more software of a higher quality is being released sooner. The PS3 is still in its early growth phase, and its expensive for a game system, but not so expensive if you think of it as a blue ray player AND a game system.

I don't mean to go to far off topic, but do some online PS3 games NOT support headsets? And a headset doesn't come included with the $599 package? If so, that sucks, because it would be hard to communicate if eveyone doesn't have a headset. Almost eveyone on the 360 is on a headset.

You can use a bluetooth or USB headset on a PS3. And USB headsets must plug directly into the PS3, not the controller. But it doesn't come with one in the box like the 360 does, so not everyone will have one. Bluetooth headset quality varies greatly, and it seems that different games on the PS3 work differently with headsets. Some work fine, some barely work at all.

I agree that this is a big plus in the 360's corner that may not be immediately apparent. When I'm on XBox live, I can talk to everyone playing, because everyone has a headset. I can mute people I don't want to talk to, and that mute then works for every game. And I have an easily accessible mute button on the controller so people can't hear me when I'm talking to someone in my house.

Right but that 499 console was the 20 gb version that by comparasion really sucked, for only 100 more you could get alot more versatility. Sure it was 499 at launch but now it is a better value. That is beside the point, the point is a blu ray player and eventually a good gaming console currently for 499.

damn! you're right!

I think the answer is as simple as:

What system are you friends running? If you want to play against them online you are going to need the same system.

For pure gaming I say get the 360 but make sure it's built in June or later. Microsoft has started addressing some of the reliability issues.

If your priority was Blue Ray with some gaming I'd say PS3.
Most of the above comments are correct. I have both consoles, and I play games on the Xbox, and watch movies on the PS3. That being said, there really is not much of a large movie library on blu-ray anyways (its all on standard DVD), so maybe in a few years it will be used more.

Buy the system that most of your friends have. Most of the fun in gaming is playing on line with friends. If you do not have many friends that game, then get the Xbox. There are 3-4 times as many users (if not more as many people buy/ have bought the PS3 as a movie playing machine), and remember that most EA games are catered to North America, so factor that when looking at console sales (user base in N. America). Chances are that if you are a gamer, you will likey own both systems during the life cycle, so in the end it will not matter which you get now. If you are a casual gamer, do not play much on line, then the PS3 could be a all in one box solution. They are both great machines, and despite the Xbox red ring of death, it has not detered people from buying them, and you will be covered for 3 years anyways.

If you have posted here is probably because you want a 360. Best advice, buy the one you want not the one people tell you to, so you won't regret it later.

Blu-ray with some gaming is what I am looking for. I will not be playing on-line or with friends so that is not a concern. I think I am leaning more towards PS3 right now. Although I think 360 might be a little better. Thanks for all the input!! BTW, does PS3 have all the same sports games right now??
^^ Yes, PS3 has all the same sports game except you need to be aware that right now, at least, the batch of football games from EA and 2k run at 30 frames per second on PS3 and 60 fps on 360.

First party Sony sports games run at 60 fps as far as I know.

What does this mean? It's a difference in speed, responsiveness, and smoothness.

Here's my situation:

Long/short: I went through 2 360's last year. I bought one at launch that had some of the typical bugaboos that I got rid of after a few months and then a second 360 that I bought when NCAA 2007 came out. That unit ate 3 discs, scratched them to hell, and did it to two other games. I gave up and got rid of that one as well when the PS3 came out.

I've been very happy with my PS3 for gaming and Blu-Ray but then you come into stupidity like this fps issue for the 360 football games vs. the PS3 issue. I've tried both versions and I really preferred the 360 versions for the faster fps.

So now we're all aware of all the doom 'n' gloom, wretched hardware news and failure rates that MS is fielding these days with the 360.

So here's an honest question: If I wanted to try "third time's the charm" and get yet another 360, possibly even an Elite...what can I do to try and put myself in a place where I can get a 360 that isn't under that 30-33 percent failure rate?

I want to make sure I get a new system that has newer/better/fixed hardware if I decide to do it.

Make any sense?

Madden runs at 60fps in the PS3

If I have never played either systems, I guess I will never now about the 30 vs. 60 fps issue, right?
I have both. I don't have any ps3 games. I am mostly playing games on the 360 and watching movies or older ps2 games on the ps3. I say get both.

No, it does not and will not unless someone has some really good new news for me.

^^ For a while there was a update about Madden and then there was the unfortunate retraction from said source:

Has there been another change since this that I don't know about?

You might. If you play the PS3 version and something doesn't "feel right" to you or "too slow" then that's probably the slow fps getting to you like it does me.

If you make the "mistake" of trying out the 360 version somewhere for comparision...then you'll know it for sure.
