HD DVD Bourne Identity looks GREAT!

Watched Bourne Identity last night in HD and the results were GREAT!

No excess edge enhancement, strong sharpness, no excess film grain, good color and a whooping soundtrack.

IT features the U-Control - which I don't like - Warner's pop-up window is much better. The video commentary is not at the same level as Supremacy which ran the complete length of the movie. It does include a cool Treadstone File interactive dossiers with interesting facts. Also, the disc includes all of the extras from the previous DVDs including commentary and tons of short documentaries.

I just finished watching Bourne identity, and it is stunning. 5 stars out of 5. The contrast is excellent, colors are sharp and brilliant, sharpness does not have a lot of grain like in some movies. When they show Bourne, you can see the texture of his sweater, the scenery in Paris , is like a video in 1080p on hd net. I have never seen anything like this on hd dvd movie wise since King Kong. It is simply excellent. Visuals look stuning, extremely focused and sharp, and a very sweet resolute picture. THis is in my estimation the best transfer since King KOng, Universal has hit a home run, i would watch this movie another 10 times, it i such a sheer pleasure to the eye. I thought i am looking at a different tv set, it is so clear and sharp.

Bravo Universal and thanks for supporting hd dvd only. I buy most of your movies

Is it a flipper?

Man, I need my copy... I want to do a direct comparison to my DTHEATER version...

No. Like all recent catalog titles from Universal, it is a single-sided disc.

Also, I agree with everyone that this is an impressive looking and sounding disc. Universal has delivered in a big way with their newest releases of more recent films.

I used to own the D Theater Version before i sold it and the HD-Dvd version is better.

The best part is that this is actually a good movie, which makes the whole thing all the better!

I'll be picking this up next week.
This is good to hear, been sitting on Supremecy since I bought it, never seen either one and it was HARD to not pop that in and watch it, now I'm really looking forward to picking this up on tues - hope SOMEBODY has it, I'm guessing BB WILL carry this one. ;-)

I can't remember the Specs. Did Uni include a TrueHD track on this one??

Nope, just DD+ at 1.5 Mbps. However, the sound track we have sounds great.

Well, better than 640K DD+ , thank God for the small things

I sold my D-Theater copy of The Bourne Identity on ebay a couple of months back for $108 then pre-ordered the HD DVD from Amazon for 17.95 shipped. I am dying to get my hands on the HD DVD next Wednesday. It has been a long two months but it sounds like the wait was worth it.

There haven't been any flipper HD DVDs released, ever. Some dual-sided discs, yes, but no flippers.
Yeah I was on the fence as to get this one or not but now I definately will
post #16 of 176
Can someone compare the DD+ on the HD-DVD to the DTS track on the Collector's Edition DVD?
good to hear this one is nice because I wanna add it to my Supremacy disc i bought the other day.

Supremacy was very soft in most parts and the colours weren't right. Pretty good movie though
post #18 of 176
i've been looking forward to this one since the announcement and universal didn't disappoint me. the colors were crisp and sharp and a awesome audio. for some odd reason i like this better than bourne supremacy because this didn't make me dizzy during the car scene. i hope paul greengrass didn't using the shaky camera in bourne ultimatum.

This may be a stupid question, but why would anyone pay $108 for a d-vhs tape?
Wish Liman had directed the sequels as well. Greengrass's style is just to "gritty" for an already fast action paced film.
I have also just ordered those 2 Bourne movies.. Can't wait!

Well I paid $109.00 for the Japanese import of Episode I:The Phantom Manace LD back in the days, then later I sold it for the same even though it was used . Even better for my Star Wars SE LD box set, it went for $300, and I only paid $100.
But why wouldn't someone just get the Bourne Identity HD DVD for 20 bucks? hehe

Because it wasn't actually available at the time and the tape was? Or they want an HD version but have no intention of buying an HD DVD player in the near future but already own a D-VHS player? I'm sure the person had a reason. Perhaps a collector of niche formats, even.

I think the most I've paid for a single D-Theater title was around the $60 mark, each, for Alien and Brotherhood of the Wolf. And probably a dozen or so titles around the $40-45 MSRP mark (each) direct from JVC, some of which even already available on HD DVD/Blu-Ray for half the price.

Anyone looking to sell a glitch free low usage copy of Bourne on D-Theater to me... It's really the only D-Theater tape left that I really want. I think I own around 45-50 titles.

I am giving this one a 4/5. I saw more EE then I expected, but surprisingly I saw quite a lot of film debris. The film debris is noticeable in the brighter scenes. I am surprised this was not removed. Other then that it is a nice transfer, better then the DVD.

Does anyone think they'll come out with a trilogy boxset for the holidays? Or at all? I've already got the first 2 on SD, so I could wait for a boxset, but if there are no plans at all, I'll pick these up with the remainder of some Amazon gift cards!

Interesting.

While it's always good to get as much feedback on new releases as possible, I've read 62 reviews of this pending release by folks who got early HD DVD editions various ways (U.S. and Europe) . Not 1 mentioned either of the issues you indicate. In fact, I took a tally, and 46 of them specifically cite The Bourne Identity in HD DVD with virtually debris-free and an exceptionally clean transfer.

Another 16 people indicated no EE whatsoever (starting with the original thread poster here). Yours is the only review I've found anywhere citing these points. Hmmmmm.

This reminds me of the Matrix release weekend reviews, when some folks "saw" things others never saw. But when 70% of the viewers specifically cite a lack of flaws and no EE, I'll go with their assessment. I'll also judge for myself Tuesday.

I can't wait....I'm still waiting on DVD Pacific to send it out.
