Mexican HDTV - Page 13

Hi everybody, today at 22:30 its a dream day, i change from channel 2 to 5 and only hd content is broadcasted,

channel 2 (canal de las estrellas): news program "el noticiero
channel 4 (cuatro tv): wwe's raw
channel 5 (canal cinco): terminales

i think that is the first time that 4 channels (including azteca13 with it's own news prg.) broadcast hd simultaneously in the city.

Looks like XHDTV-DT will have to cochannel with KAZA-DT. This might be bad but it's far in Tecate. Some parts of SD may get KAZA-DT instead of XHDTV-DT. It might be a hard station to get OTA since they will have to cochannel.

I guess I can eat my words. It might not be that bad afterall. Some people in Temecula might be able to get this station OTA. Thats if you have a good antenna that has line of sight of Cerro Bola.

However Cube799 might want to add this since Tecate will be going to have a digital station. It still hasn't signed on and probably won't until 2009.

What list? I don't have a list. Unless you mean the one on the first, post, but I haven't updated that in quite a while.

Breaking news!

A new provider of satellite TV has been created, "Dish Mexico", that will, at last, end the monopoly that SKY had for years for satellite provider.

This will hopefully come with digital signals and HD content before SKY ever does, it will only start on mayor cities and will be spreading thru the country.

Echostar signed the agreement and Telmex is the one providing the service and billing.

thanks for the news. that's so interesting. right now the dish in mexico doesn't have a lot of channels. this is the website for it. http://www.dish.com.mx

i have a question. does anyone know if S.O.S. is in HD on channel 5?
Yes, only two stats so far, several planned (not Chihuahua yet), they do have a Digital Receiver, so HD is a possibility, I asked them about that...

Also if local channels are supported, because on SKY you won't see any local channels.

I don't think I could get the digital channels from Tijuana because like you said XHUAA is channel 22 and there is a channel 22 in Los Angeles. I'm not sure if I can get XEWT-DT because I don't know if a channel in LA uses 32 for a digital channel in LA.

A lot of the times I also get the radio stations from San Diego and Tijuana. Sometimes I get Exa FM 91.7, Radio Latina 104.5, Pulsar 107.3.

I am really tempted to buy an outdoor antenna but I'm not sure which one to get. I've been looking at some antenna's and they have had mixed reviews. Some say they are good and some say they didn't last and didn't really work for them.

Thanks for the help guys!

Hi:

Since you´re living in L.A. and wish to get DT channels from Tijuana, i´m afraid you won´t be able to because of co-channel interference with L.A. tv stations:

XHUAA-DT (televisa 2) ch 22 with KWHY-TV. But after Feb 17 2009 you might be able to get it since KWHY will still use ch 42 for DT only.

XHJK-DT (Azteca 13) ch 28 with KCET-TV and DT after Feb 17 2009

XHTIT-DT (Azteca 7) ch 29 with KFTR-DT now and after Feb 17 2009

XEWT-DT (Televisa Local) ch 32 with KDOC-DT now and after Feb 17 2009.

Your best choice is to get these analog channels instead.

@ Aino.

Thanx for sharing those images about the 4 HD channels of Televisa, now i know that the one i´m interest to watch has an HD (canal 5) and i shure wish that we can get that signal soon in Tijuana on XHBJ-DT, but the question will be: when XHBJ strats broadcasting it´s digital outlet it will transmit the analog signal? since XHBJ is a Televisa affiliate and it only broadcasts canal 5 from 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Time will tell.

By the way, i notice that XEIPN Once tv has started it´s digital transmitter tests on channel 33. I don´t know if it´s broadcasting full 24 hr or for a few hours during the day.

thanks for the reply. i would be so happy if i at least got XHUAA! thats the main channel i want to get. lol

XHBJ-DT may use Ch. 46. The FCC says that CH. 46 is a Tijuana allocation. There are a few other Tijuana allocations but CH. 47 is now a Tecate allocation on top of Cerro Bola.
The COFETEL has notified the FCC that NEW-DT 47 is now XHDTV-DT. It will become a Tecate allocation but they didn't give out enough information. That information was sent back to the COFETEL until they update it. I bet all future Mexican border DTV's will be on CH's. 7 to 51 to avoid interference. Don't know how they are going to deal with it.

Yesterday TV Azteca 7 HD showed the Cruz Azul vs. Atlante game in HD. I wonder if there showing it in HD in Juarez because it's the Mexican Fútbol finals.
Yeah, it´s going to be a big problem in the future for tv stations to get ch assignments since the VHF and UHF bands are shortened (from ch. 7 to 51). Since there are so many tv stations in L.A. and the San Diego-Tijuana region, some of them are going to have the same ch and that´s going to be a huge problem for residents that can get a straight signal from both cities. Let´s wait and see if the FCC and SCT can solve this problem.

I didn´t get the chance to watch the Cruz Azul vs Atlante game yesterday on XHTIT-DT (Tijuana) but i know that Tv Azteca broadcasts some soccer games in real HD, but not all, i´m guessing that Tv Azteca (and also Televisa) don´t have so many HD equipment to broadcast all soccer games. So, i´m guessing that today´s game Santos vs Toluca (semifinals) on Tv Azteca will not be broadcast in HD, but i certainly hope that they will.

I´m guessing that if the finals are broadcast in both networks (1 on Televisa and 1 on Tv Azteca) both of them are going to be in HD, i hope so. There is the possibility that the finals will be seen only on Televisa (if the finals are with Toluca vs Atlante) or Tv Azteca (if the finals are with Cruz Azul vs Santos)

HDTVFAN, where i can get the FCC info about the Tijuana digital channel allocations?
The FCC isn't the best. NEW-DT 47 is still a Tecate allocation but the COFETEL must submit the right data. Mexicali also has CH. 47 as another DT allocation.

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/video/tvq.html

Then type New-DT or a mexican call sign. They aren't that accurate. A few NEW-DT's have been negotiated with Mexico and one of them is XHDTV-DT. Some of the known DT's are actually a NEW-DT according to the FCC. NEW-DT 29 in Tijuana is XHTIT-DT. Hope this helps.
Tijuana has CH. 38 and CH. 41 as DT stations. They also have CH. 34 which is XHAS-DT. 38 and 41 could be for XHBJ or XHJTB. Even a new Televisa DT only station could exist. Who knows really. 38 and 41 have power ratings. Though XHDTV-DT needs to be at 1,000 kw ERP so it can get to San Diego. So what if it interferes with Temecula. A High power rating will compensate for the San Diego geography.
White space broadband will also be a pain in the San Diego-Tijuana-Tecate DMA.
Hi:

Don´t worry hdtvfan about the Mexicali DT channel allocations. Those future DT channels are not going to be a threat to those in Tijuana or San Diego. In fact, XHJK-DT (Tijuana) and XHAQ-DT (Mexicali), both are Azteca 13 and they are broadcasting on channel 28 and, since Mexicali is an inland valley (elevation arround sea level), the west mountains of La Rumorosa (elevation approx. 1300 meters above sea level) block those signals to the west. So it won´t be a problem after all. Besides, i think that the most radiation pattern of XHDTV-DT is going towards San Diego, so most of it´s radiated power is going to be pointed towards north-northwest to reach San Diego very well.
Oh, i almost forgot that future XHAS-DT is going to use the same channel as XHBM-DT (canal de las estrellas) in Mexicali.

If channel 38 is used for a new DT station in Tijuana, it can be interfered with KPXN-DT San Bernardino in higher areas because of it´s 1000 kW ERP, and channel 41 with either KZSD-LP San Diego or KLCS-DT Los Angeles. Time will tell. Channel 46 is a good DT allocation, since in L.A. it will be free for the moment after feb. 17 2009 since KFTR-DT will continue using ch. 29.

By the way, thanks for the link above.
Thats assuming that XHDTV-DT is at 1,000 kw ERP. If it does then it can sneak into Temecula but only in areas that block Mt. Wilson. Usually thats in the southern areas by San Diego County. XHDTV-DT could run at a lower rating. As long as it's not like the Analog channel where it's snowy in the northern parts. Also XHDTV-TV is cochanneling with KHAX-LP in Vista, CA and KJLA-DT in LA. XHDTV-DT is cochanneling with KAZA-DT so it shouldn't be that bad. Just some more ramblings.
CH. 44 is now in the FCC list. It's colocated with XETV, XEWT, and XHUAA. It's a DT station.

Edit: CH. 34 is now added. Looks like XHAS-DT will be signing on soon.
Yeah, i´ve just saw that new info on the FCC page and, that´s probably the future allocation for XHBJ-DT since it´s analog broadcaster is located atop mt. San Antonio, the same mt. that XETV, XEWT and XHUAA are too. And that new DT allocation is also good (with ch 46) because it will not co-channel with KXLA Los Angeles after Feb. 17 2009 because it´s DT transmitter will continue using ch 51.

I live few km. from mt. San Antonio and i know where XHAS transmission tower is located, and i also pass everyday near that mt. Once i see that they´re installing it´s new DT system (antenna bay and feedline) on it´s tower i´ll let you know right here. Back in 2006 i´ve noticed that installation on Tv Azteca´s transmission tower (they have installed their DT antennas above the analog antenna bay).
CH. 38 in Tijuana is up on top of Cerro Colorado which means it's colocated with XHTJB. Once TV has plans to go digital in 2010. CH. 41 or 44 could be a Televisa channel. Maybe Televisa will launch a digital only channel. CH. 46 is another unknown channel. CH. 47 we all know is XHDTV-DT.
CH. 44 is XHBJ-DT. Thats what Francisco Laurent of Televisa says. He has worked for Televisa for over 50 years.
The FCC has now confirmed Francisco Laurent. That same Francisco Laurent has worked in that position for over 50 years which is what I have called commitment. I think he mainly works for Televisa on XETV and probably the other stations. XHBJ-DT will be on CH. 44 and that has also been granted. No word on XHDTV-DT. It will probably sign on long before the FCC puts it in the database . CH. 46 does infact cochannel another San Diego LP which may move to another channel. It's KHAX-LP which is a univision station. Entravision can move that to another channel.
Does anybody know if the Mexican stations are going to (eventually) have to choose to stay on their digital channel or go back to their analog channel like the U.S. stations did? Will they be able to choose-- or must they stay on the digital or go back to the old analog channel?
Well maybe they will go back to their analog signal. That might not be for a very, very, long time. XHDTV was rumored to back to 49 after 2021. XETV our CW station will probably stay on CH. 23 since Lo-VHF isn't ideal for DTV.
I "started" watching the soccer finals... awful SD-SOV from Televisa, had to turn the channel elsewhere, such an eyesore..

I also lose the 32-1 (29-1) signal often, even at work...

I saw that game and it was HD, are you sure you were watching the right channel. Channel 32-1 seems to have signal problems when there is strong wind. The signal was barely watchable for the game on Sunday.
Maybe they switched to HD later, couldn't watch it at the start it was awful...
BTW I think they (or we) should remove the HD part from Channel 20-1, I haven't seen any HD programming for months now....

In fairness Televisa's Mexico's channel 5 does transmit some HD content, why on earth Channel 7 (20-1) doesn't do anything.. a movie, a TV series, anything? They were the pioneers of Mexico's all HD programming when they began... now is just SOV 24/7
