I have Sky in Los Angeles. I called to cancel today and asked when they would have HD service and the guy told that they were going to start in April but that now they are thinking late May or early June. He also mentioned HD DVRs. I wonder if it will have a new UI.

What's going on with Canal de las Estrellas HD in Juarez, right now they are showing a bunch of colored bars and no audio!!! It's been like that for more than an hour.

Maybe they´re having problems with the reception of their HD signal via satellite.

By the way, is that channel (XEW 2) broadcasting in your area with 1 hour delay from the one coming from Mexico City? Right here in Tijuana the signals (analog and HD) are broadcasting with a 2 hour delay. Sometimes the HD signal is changed to the delayed analog one because of the problems with the delayed HD signal (the signals are delayed locally).

Sky sent out a message that said that I or any SKY subscriber can get Sky+HD and a 46 inch full HD tv with no interest for 18 months. Does that mean SKY+HD is out already? :O

since about Thursday, Canal de las Estrellas has been messing with the data for channel 29 over here in Juarez. They changed the name of channel 32.1 to XHJCI, and they changed the name of channel 32.2 to XEPM. Also they seem to have added information to the PID fields. Later on at about 7 PM they switched to 1440 x 1080i HD LITE.


Also they seem to have changed the audio to Stereo on 32.1 sometime during the day. They also increased the bitrate for channel 32.2 by about 1mbps to 6.19mbps. I really don't understand why they would increase the bitrate for this channel instead of the HD channel!!! I would have preferred that they would have increased the Bitrate for the HD Channel, instead of switching to HD Lite. Also, they could have increased the bitrate on both channels, and left the HD channel at 1920 x 1080i. Maybe they can increase the bitrate on both channels by 0.5 mbps.

Since about Thursday, Televisa has been showing SKY + HD commercials that say pretty much everything that you said, plus also that if you already have an HDTV you can get SKY+ HD for 589 Pesos per month.

In my workplace case it would be the 48+ months.

Notice that they are saying that if you pre-order now you'll get the full set of games of World Cup free, they are only charging bars, restaurants, etc for those.

The TVs are pretty expensive, that'll be over US $2,000 for a 46 " LCD

The receiver looks like DirecTV's receiver. So it will be an additional 200 pesos to get the HD channels.

Also If you keep reading on that link you posted about SKY + HD, it says that the SKY + HD receiver will be installed in April.

On January 1, 2010 Mexico entered Phase III of the COFETEL plan for TDT. This includes the digital channels for cities with more than 1 Million People, which means that Ciudad Juarez, & Tijuana are included in this Phase.

Problems with "Canal de las Estrellas" they changed frequency from 29.3 to 29.1, I was trying to tune in 29.3, did a rescan and it's now 29.1, the SD channel is 29.2

Yes I noticed that too. If you look at the Screenshot I posted of TSReaderLite, it says program 1, and program 2 on it. Also for a couple of days I've had trouble getting channel 32 on the 3 Converter Boxes in my house. It just seems to pause the audio and video all the time, I've moved the antenna, but the problem doesn't go away. The good thing is that I Can still get a good signal on my HDTV and my HDTV Card.

Hey, Sky guy:

Thanks for sharing some pictures about the new Sky+HD receiver, it has an HDMI output and in the front pannel 4 leds that will tell about the scan resolution (480i, 480p, 720, 1080). I believe that most of the HD channels will be 1080i (including national networks from Mexico City).

How about the satellite dish, is it different from the normal dishes (LNB)?

Can you take some pictures about the HD channels on that system to see how they look like too.

I believe that the lease price of the receiver will be expensive, that´s what my brother told me. Despite that, congratulations on your new adquisition, you will be able to watch the next FIFA world cup in HD.

Wowowowow.. modem? SATA? 2 Ethernet? USB? that's a lot of inputs/outputs there.... disappointed in the HDMI qty.. I would have wanted at least 2.. (one in front, one in back)..

Hey, nitewalk... no, unfortunately that box isn't mine -- I pulled those shots from some Spanish-language DirecTV forum. I live in the U.S. and will have to wait until maybe May to get one from the black... uh, I mean "grey" market.

For about the last 3 weeks or so both TV Azteca & Televisa seem to be having problems showing HD Fútbol games. First TV Apesta hasn't shown any Fútbol games in HD For the last 3 weeks. They've only shown some of Team Mexico Games in HD, but they didn't show the game that was played in The New Santos stadium in HD. Also last Friday they showed the beginning of the Estudiantes Tecos game with sidebars, but then when the guy realized that the sidebars weren't going away, he turned them off and switched showing the game in Stretch-o-Vision.

Also for about 3 weeks Televisa hasn't shown any of the Sunday morning games in HD on Canal del las Estrellas HD, but they have shown the America games in HD. I really don't understand why they wouldn't show the Sunday morning games in HD, if they used to show them in HD before. I wonder if this could be a local problem and the guy there is forgetting to flip the switch for the morning games?

For about the last Week or so Televisa has been showing another Sky HD Commercial, that is for the Real Madrid vs Barcelona Game in HD on April 10th.


So I'm assuming that Sky HD Should be available before April 10th.

Isn't CNN HD only 1/2 HD? meaning only in-studio shots are HD and outside cameras (where the news matter) are in SD?

Speaking of lack of HD, TV Azteca 7 "HD" seems to be completely lacking HD. It seems that they may have canceled their only HD show Info 7 tarde! I've been checking for about a week, and it seems this show isn't airing anymore. instead they're airing cartoons or some other kids shows.

Is the offer for the 64 matches on World Cup still up? meaning if you contract SKY HD you'll be getting them all free?

I maybe tempted to get it soonish..

I do want to watch all "Canal 5" original series in HD, like "Mujeres Asesinas", "El Pantera", "Los Simuladores", etc.

BTW tonight on Univision HD, Mujeres Asesinas is announced in HD, I missed previous episodes, this would be my first ever M.A. in HD..

Also right now I noticed something on TV Azteca 7 HD. It seems like they were showing a movie in HD. I didn't catch the name, but it was about a family that was being attacked by a bunch of lions. The weird thing is that I put the analog channel and it seems that they were showing the movie all squished, everything was too tall, and too skinny.
