Reciever Purchase - Local BB or J&R?

I can buy the receiver I want for $140 less from J&R than buying it from BB. I want to save the money like most people. I also like the fact that I can return the receiver to BB if don't like it at no cost. J&R has a 30 day free retrun but you have to pay shipping. What is the experience of this board? I see many receivers being returned here so I wonder if it is better to pay more? Maybe I should wait until the price drops instead of buying now.

Returning a reciever Fed-Ex ground will only run $10-$15. Personally, I would gamble that to save $140. Just make sure it is what you want before ordering, and there is not much risk.

what he said. you're still saving $140+tax minus shipping cost after you return it. JR has always been pretty good with my orders.

The problem is that I can't find any where to hear the receiver. Best Buy is one of the few stores in the Dallas area that has this receiver but it is not set up to listen to it. When I asked I was told they don't demo the low end receivers only the recievers in the Magnolia section. So, I am buying it based on what I've read on this board alone.

Will BB charge you any fee for return item (like 15% re-stock fee)? If not, you can buy from BB first, listen to it, and return it. If you like the result, then you can buy from JR again.

I'm not sure but I do believe they have a restocking fee but that may only apply after 15 days. I'll have to check that out. I did think of doing this. The model I'm looking at is the Yamaha RX V661. It seems to have the least amount of problems of the receivers I've researched on this site for $500 and under.

best buy shouldn't have a restocking fee. you can give it a try and return it. find out from the salesman what the restrictions are. i believe it's 30 days unless it's computers and software. is there a fry's in your area? i know they stock yammies..

I think buying one at BB just to check it out, and then returning it and buying online is pretty shady.

If $10 to $15 dollars is too much for you to risk on shipping, you need to find a new hobby.

btw, i forgot to mention BB does pricematch J&R.

If you would have read the thread you would have known that Best Buy would not set up a receiver for me to hear it. I think it is silly for them to expect people to spend $500 dollars before hearing what they are buying. I think that is bad service and a poor way to do business. Secondly, if their policy is 30 day return no questions asked then they are kind of inviting people to do this. I do agree that it feels shady to me too. However, a see a lot of people doing this. I wasn't planning on doing this but I will discuss this as an option with the sales person.

Yeah there are a couple of fry's but they are about 25 miles away and their price is the same as BB. I don't know if you've been to fry's but I've returned a bunch of stuff as have others. If they had a lower price I wouldn't hesitate.
