Troy is personally one of my top picks for PQ, what doesn't impress you about it ?

I think it looks very good. Not sure if the Director's Cut will be any different though. I'm thinking it'll just have the extra footage, PQ will be about the same.

Blooming whites..& seems like the contrast in day scenes are way overdone.. Also far away scenes with CGI look blurry IMO.. I only have 3 HD DVD's thus far.. The Thing/COR/Troy. Troy is the weakest IMO.. So, is the uncut version from the same SD master??

I am not sure how Warner is going squeeze such a lengthy feature in a 30 Gig disc.
I hope that they do a good job in terms of PQ.

SD master? What are you talking about! Studios using hi def masters for years, and then "downconvert" for DVDs. Warner is also among the best to do this.
I would first get your display professionally calibrated if you haven't done so yet, then you can make more better conclusions on these transfers.

I think Troy looks pants too.
It has a fairly low bitrate.

I have it. Not the best HD DVD, but nice. A definite improvement over the SD DVD version which I also own.

I just picked it up from Fry's and I'm in the middle of watching it. I'm blown away, to each their own.

regarding the blooing whites and contrast I think it was like that in the cinemas too. it is the director`s decision to make it like that.
