I'm watching it right now. Says HD and it's a much better picture then we've been suffering through on Directv.

Might have to re-watch the series yet again.

What is with this refusal of DirecTV to add AMC-HD?

I'm having more troubles with TWC and am pondering a move, but since some of the best stuff on TV is on AMC, that gives me pause. Whazzup with that?

Agree - what is the freakin' holdup DirecTv?

The wife & I went back & eatched the first epsiode last night. Certainly better than the DirecTv SD version we've always dealt with.

My hope is that DirecTv gets with the program soon.....or Netflix also scores The Walking Dead for streaming....

Fortunately they did.

'Mad Men' will return to AMC on...
By Lynette Rice, EW.com's 'Inside TV' Blog - Jan. 9, 2012

After an interminable break, a date has finally emerged for the return of Mad Men.

Star Jon Hamm said in a recent interview that the Emmy-winning series will return for a fifth season on March 25.

AMC would not confirm or deny Hamm's statement.

In November, creator Matt Weiner explained that the protracted renegotiation over the show's future on AMC had nothing to do with the drama's delayed premiere to 2012 but the perception still remains that he was, in part, to blame.

Ouch that's a long time.. I almost forgotten what the season finale was about LOL..
IMDB shows the season four finale originally aired on Oct. 17, 2010.

Weiner should be right at home with these lengthy breaks between seasons, coming from The Sopranos and all.

That's why they've been rerunning all the episodes from all the seasons with the season four finale airing just before the season five premiere.

They started rerunning them a few months ago and got half way through season three, but once the premiere date was set they had to start from the beginning again!

Thanks for the heads up! My TiVo's season pass had disappeared for some reason, so your post saved me.

Looks like another classic season...despite the long wait.

I finally got around to doing something today that I had put off for too long: I ordered the BDs of all 4 seasons of Mad Men. Can hardly wait to see them all again. I am going to put off starting to watch the upcoming season until after I complete my retrospective. It shouldn't take me long to get through it, though.

+1, I have all 4 seasons on Blu ray. Can't pick a favorite season...they're all amazin'.

But, I don't have the will-power to wait, its all about tonight's premiere.

I don't think you'll regret it. I first watched the entire series to date over the summer on Netflix streaming in HD. It looked and sounded good, but the series on BD looks and sounds outstanding. A second viewing affords a look at many details and story points that I didn't catch the first time. It holds up and actually improves under further scrutiny.

If you're selective about what you buy for your BD library, I think it's a sure thing that this series is one worth owning.

Have fun re-watching and rewinding to catch great lines, especially Roger's. Roger has the best lines of anyone, and John Slattery knows exactly how to deliver them.

I noticed that on Fox they're airing a rerun of The Simpsons at 8 pm of the episode from earlier this season which guest stars John Slattery and whose story is a send up of Mad Men with Homer taking on the role of an "account man." It's a nice tribute, both the story itself and Fox's decision to air it on the night of Mad Men's return to TV on AMC.

I am very selective about what I add to my BD library. In fact, the only current TV series I have on BD are Downton Abbey and Sherlock. I added Mad Men mostly because it is wonderful television but in part because Amazon's price for all 4 seasons was very reasonable.

Wow I really love this show...Drama and tons of HUMOR.

I just wonder what year is it '66 or '67?

After a year and a half, it was like visiting old friends.

Excellent PQ, great song choices and outstanding art direction..this show is still innovating.

And as if the last 17 months simply didn't exist, we're graced tonight with two more hours of very fine television entertainment from the creative and talented Mad Men team. Thank you.

I loved the ending scene. Jared Harris has really plugged into the Pryce character quite nicely!

Don is on his way to a break down and Roger is already there. Pete is so small time. Glad nothing has changed there.

What is the significance of the artifact with the resume attached?

It's an African sculpture. It was sent as a racist joke by Y&R.

I thought the acting was wooden from nearly everyone. The furniture had more energy. But the first episode of the last season was terrible and the season picked up from there, so I'm hopeful.

You thought Joan dealing with her mother was wooden?
You thought Megan's dance was wooden?
You thought Roger was wooden when drinking with the Mohawk people?

Not sure we were watching the same program.

Yes, Don and Peggy were stilted, but isn't that how they roll?

Roger and Megan not wooden. Joan always wooden. I think Hendricks and January Jones are the weakest members of the cast.

Joan is Soooooooo awesome...In my humble opinion.

She's my favorite female character.

The character development on Mad Men is so amazing. In season one I hated Pete. Now I cheer everytime he scores a victory (no matter how miniscule) over Roger.

Pete is immature and insecure, but I liked his character since the first episode.
After not seeing Mad Men since the last episode, I was surprised at how almost all of the characters act like spoiled children. Peggy wants Don's approval like he was her daddy. Pete wants a bigger office because he saw a bigger one and whaaa! Joan sobs because having a woman help you take care of your baby is so sad. Harry acts like he's been called to the principal's office showing no professionalism. Roger acts like his parents have left town and it's summer vacation. Bertram wanders around the halls of his business like a clueless child. Even Don acts like his office is just a place to hang out before and sometimes after lunch.

Everyone is so uncomfortable with each other. No one wanted to go to Draper's birthday party. No one enjoys their jobs any more. Everyone seems to be suppressing rage and suspicion against everyone else. Only Ken Cosgrove and Lane look like they're happy where they are.

No wonder everyone ended up on drugs by the end of the 60's!

Did I see a 1968 protest card there? so what year is it now?

Wow Megan can sing in french.. were simple lyrics but done very well... bit of a turnoff when she was cleaning in her underwear, looks she needs improvement in the rear department.. LOL.. but gorgeous anyway..

I'm only glad Betty wasn't in the premiere, she's becoming so forgettable and secondary now..

I was hoping to see that Dolores girl visit Pryce..
