Also, I read that the Juno brand can come into contact with insulation. Is that true? If so, that would be great.

I'll confirm what gnolivos said. 25w and under is IC, above is 3" of clearance.

Do they come with a cover? Or, is that extra?

I just bought some of these today for under $5 with the horizontal and vertical cover.

The Juno includes the cover, which is white in color. Took $4 and 2 minutes to spray paint, looks beautiful.

Just came across this thread - and glad I did - I have been looking for some step lights. I had a question though - if these are mounted in the face of a 2x8 or 2xwhatever - is the fact that it's in contact with wood and not insulation per se, the same as "IC" rated? i.e. - as long as I follow the guidelines for IC rating (wattage of the bulb) I am good to go, even though it's touching wood?

Thank!

Lewis

Follow up -
I didn't hear back from anyone on my previous question so I fired the same question to the source themselves - Juno Lighting. Here's the response that I got. Figured it might help others as well as myself. In summary it looks like we're good to go on this.

Mr. Cobb
The ICTC113 housing is designed for new construction installation. The housing is meant to be supported by the integral bar hangers which would be nailed to studs or joists. In order to install the housing in the manner you suggest, you would have to remove the bar hangers and devise some way to secure the housing to your 2x8. This would be really more of a remodel type installation. Because the ICTC113 housing is "IC" rated, it can by code, be in direct contact with combustible materials. I have included as an attachment, Article 410-66 from the 05" National Electrical Code as confirmation of this. I think the mounting itself is the biggest issue you would have to deal with. I hope this is helpful to you.

I mounted it without the bars, directly to studs. Piece of cake. And I am using a 7.5W bulb on it, so the heat is next to NOTHING. No concerns... and plenty light for a dark room. It is a very good choice of housing/lamp!

Great news all around - thanks. I am going to order up about 6 of these here shortly.

One question - is the trim made of plastic or metal ? Just wondering what prep work I will have to do to paint them black.

Thanks again,
Lewis

The trim is METAL. It was a piece of cake to spray paint black. It looks as if I had purchased them like such.... no prep required. I used a Rustoleoum paint. I think it was not even a Heat Resistant version, because I wanted semi-gloss. (heat is only available in Black flat at Lowes)

I need to order 2 of these step lights. The company still has a $100 minimum order. PM me if you are interested in getting 2 or more of these with me. I'll handle the ordering and shipping.
