Does the Lutron SPS-5WCR Spacer System Master Control, Remote 5-Scene Wall-Mounted with IR Receiver seem like the right product for my application?
Also, anyone have recommendations on good recessed lights that I can purchase locally at either Home Depot or Lowes? This is for new construction and not retrofitted.
Could you be more specific regarding the number of lights you want to run off a single dimmer? I ask because there is a max wattage rating for each dimmer. I think it's 600 and 1000 watts.Specs
I asked the very same questions you did. Depending on how much control you want you can use the Spacer system but if you get enough dimmers and controllers you will be really close to $$ of a lower end Grafik eye.
The SPS-5WCR is what you want if you plan to put your dimmers in another room and only have the master controller in the room. If you are going to have them all in the same box then you only need the 5WC. I put my 3 dimmers and master controller all in the same box. Sorry for the lousy picture.
I have 3 zones - 1 dimmer for each zone and 1 master controller.
Zone 1 - 3, 3" cans
Zone 2 - 6, 5" cans
Zone 3 - 2, 3" cans
I can preset all 3 zones to do 6 different things
1 - All on full
2-5 individual settings (Zone 1 - 50%, Zone 2 - 20%, Zone 3 - off), etc
6 - all off
As long as you don't need to independently control a zone the spacer system will do what you want it to do. You can control it with any IR remote if you know the codes. I personally haven't used it with a remote but I am leaning towards the Harmony 890.
Hope this helps.
