OPPO Digital Presents: DV-980H (1080p, SACD DSD, 7.1 Surround, USB 2.0) - Page 212

quick question, my player will not play audio at normal speed anymore. It sounds like a chipmunk movie, like playing a 45 at 78 speed. This is playing cd's or movies and using either analog or digital out?
Does the video play normally or is it fast too?
Video is normal!

I'd suggest you contact Oppo direct.

Wow what a workhorse my 980 has been for over 4 years. I've had it in a wood burning (smokey) cottage during the winters, thrown it into my gym bag and into the trunk countless times, moved it around constantly and its never missed a beat (knock on wood and anti-jinx). Still amazes me how much it can be tweaked. Its ridiculous how many hours of use are on this thing. Since I don't watch tv, I do watch films everyday--the weekends a lot more, and this thing just won't stop working ! Thousands of hours and it works like brand new.

Its the little things that count as well such as the ability to turn off the display, remembering playback positions months later, etc etc. I may start stockpiling these...

I just bought one of these for next to nothing at Goodwill, but no remote was included. Does anyone know if the remotes from other Oppo family members will work with it? I can find those ones used on eBay, but not the 980H

Yes, all the OPPO DVD remotes are compatible.

OPPO Blu-ray remotes have multiple code set switches in the battery compartment, where code set 1 is the same as the original DVD remote, so those can work as well. OPPO sells them for $12. You might ask if they have any remaining DVD remotes.

Actually, it's the backlit remote that is $12. The unlit model is only $8: http://www.oppodigital.com/proddetail.asp?prod=BDP80Remote. Plus shipping, I presume.

It's worth sending them an email to ask if they have any old DVD remotes on hand. You might get lucky.

Thanks, I just sent in an email question based on your info. I will let you know how it turns out.

Well as it turns out, it's even a better deal than quoted above. I contacted their support people, put down very few dollars and now I have a new remote in hand!

Very good! Is it labeled 980H?

There isn't a way to change the remote code of the 980, is there? I have both a 980 and an Oppo BDP-80, was able to change the remote code on the BDP-80 but couldn't find a way to do so for the 980, so the 980's remote always turns on the BDP-80 whenever I use the Power or Eject button.

Set the BDP-80 to code 2 or 3. Code 1 is the same as the 980 uses.

I already did that. The BDP-80 still responds to the Power and Eject buttons of the 980's remote.

Are you cutting power to the BDP-80? The players remember their remote code only when on or on standby (when the power light is red). The first time after a power outage it will respond to power on commands from all remote codes. After it powers up it learns it's intended code and will respond only to the correct one.

I'll have to double check (its been a few years since I bought my 980), but I thought I remembered reading in the 980 manual about changing the remote code on the 980.

Yeah, most of the components in my system have the power cut to them since they don't get used every day, so that would explain it. Thanks.

Hmmm....just looked through the 980H manual and didn't find anything. Perhaps I'm thinking of the 983? Or I just don't know what I'm talking about.redface.gif

It has an "Alt RC Code" setting which allows the player to respond to other brands of remote. I never used the feature and it's different from the 3 OPPO code sets used in the Blu-ray players.

As I recall that was the only OPPO machine to play MLP audio files, making it valuable to a select few.

I still have mine but don't use it for that. I recommended it far and wide when it was in production.

Easy to make region free, plays PAL.

Definitely a workhorse. Possibly the best "discount" purchase I ever made.

Re-furb from OPPO 4 years ago. Never a problem. Except now. I just scored from OPPO a BD-93 and in my mind thought that I'd recoup some cost by selling the -980h along with the Pioneer BD-51fd. Really having a hard time convincing myself to let it go. Such a problem. Glad I got the -93 though, been drooling over the -93/-95 for years.

Just think what you might be able to do with the -980h outputting as direct source to a -103/105. Cool thing there. I do like the way OPPO thinks.

Maybe I'll keep the -980h up in a closet where the Boss won't notice!

giggles and grins,

Mkard

Any fixes for that yet? Would appreciate the help.

I was wondering If there was ever a fix for this?
