Or you could do what I did, hook up a small flat panel (I got a 20" lcd tv for $99 last year at the day-after-thanksgiving sales) using the component jacks, or s-video...then you can do things on the tivo without turning on the projector, saving wear and tear.
alternatively, now that we have mrv, does the tivocast desktop software let you see something that's currently recording in the "now playing" list, or does it only show shows that are finished recording (and therefore ready for transfer)?
Or...you could do what else I did - get a second unit! I put a tivohd on the family room tv...but I still have to check to see if mrv lists shows that are currently recording on the other unit. I'm going to guess not, since I would guess they can't be transferred until they're done recording.
It's too bad they couldn't do mrv like replaytv has done for years, where you just point to the show on the other unit and press play - no transferring! I've been very happy with how well that works...even to the point of having commercial skip work on a show recorded on a unit that doesn't have commercial skip, if I'm watching the show on a unit that does!
