HD and special effects

I just received the A20 a few days ago and have watched a few movies such as King Kong, Serenity, Batman Begins, etc. (Yes, I have been watching too much and need to get out and exercise!) What I have noticed is that scenes that seem to be such superb special effects on a 480i dvd--and even in the theater--now often appear to be just what they are: "special effects"! This is not a complaint, for I am now having too much fun noticing how much more of the sene, how much more of the details I can now see. Still, some of the "magic" is now much more obvious.

Despite this, I have preordered 300 and Heroes: Season ! I will enjoy them--even if I occasionally see a bit too much.

I first noticed this effect when I watched Star Wars II when I first got my HDTV....the whole arena fight with the beasties looked a lot faker than it did on my old 27". Not that it looked that great on the 27" either, but on the HDTV it looked like someone had cut the beasties out of a magazine and slapped them on the background.

HD DVDs make the "special" effects stand out even more. I assume as special effects become cheaper to do, HD discs and DLP theaters become more popular, and studios start realizing this shortcoming, that this issue will start to go away...at least with your big budget special effects extraveganzas.
