Unscrewing speaker terminals?

Just bought an onkyo ht-r640 and began setup. Now I feel like a tremendous moron because I cannot get the speaker terminals on the receiver to untwist so that I can connect the speaker wire. I am not a small guy & I'm twisting hard enough that I'm afraid I'm going to break it. Is there a trick to this?

Check the box. Onkyo usually supplies a terminal wrench/helper. It looks like a big wirenut with a flat on it. makes the job a lot easier.

or get banana plugs, then you dont have to screw anything

Bought it refurbished, so the terminal wrench wasn't in the box. And I thought about banana plugs, but onkyo put these guards on the terminal posts which prevent you from using banana plugs. Anyhow, everything seems to be working now except......

I have my xbox 360 hooked up via component to the receiver and then a component running out to the tv. The problem is that there's a fairly noticeable degradation in picture quality as compared to when I had the cables running straight into my 1080p Sammy. Has anyone else had this problem before?

Component is an analog signal so any switch points in the path may degrade PQ. My advice is almost always to take component direct to the TV. OTH, you may want to try different cables as there may be a shielding problem?

I thought about shielding, but I got these from monoprice which has a pretty good reputation. You're probably right - I'll have to go straight into the TV. Too bad. The entire reason I picked this system was to eliminate most of the cables running to the television. Thanks for your help!
