Deep Color - Worth It

Can some explain what formats (Broadcast TV, Blue Ray, DVD) are planning to use Deep Color and when will it be implemented. Will it be a noticeable difference? Any response will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think any, really. Of course Sony says they plan on doing it for the PS3 and Blu-Ray, but that remains to be seen. I'd say plan on having deep color only in movies/games..and chances are you aren't going to see much of that for the time being. Who knows in the next couple of years though, which I assume you are most concerned about. And yea, from the people who have seen the demonstrations, they have said there is a difference. If everything was deep color now, we'd all be pretty happy.

Selling point that won't make a difference. Just because a blu ray player or video game has deep color, you need to have a TV that can process it. I don't think its worth it right now because there aren't a lot of devices that use deep color, or software that actually implements it.

I wouldn't worry about deep color or any of that fancy mumbo jumbo unless you are dealing with all HDMI 1.3a stuff.

The only current reason I could see (other than "possible" near term future proofing) is to display the deep color captured by that $3k prosumer Sony cam that does capture deep color.

Here we are on AVS Forum...one of the more commonly-held values that folks on this forum seem to hold is "what can we get that is cutting-edge technology?" and "What improvements are out there on the horizon that we can get our hands on,?" and this stirs our blood, so to speak. People grumble when their equipment becomes less usable or useless due to advancing technology. So it seems a little ironic that some are "poo-pooing" Deep Color...even HDMI 1.3, saying "Aw, that's waaaay off...we can't use THAT !" Well baloney to that attitude. The future comes fast, and 1.3 is here now...deep color is coming in. If you are in a position to take advantage of the present and soon-to-be-here, go for it is my advice.

HDMI is just hardware. Deep Color will require remastering on a title by title basis and it will take some time to implement.
