I have been into music and audio equipment for over 30 years. I got my first system with my 8th grade graduation money. I have heard and owned a lot of setups over the years. I was an early ht adopter. Hifi vcr with pro logic. I just bought an onkyo tx-sr805. The main l/r pre preamped out to a mcintosh mc252. The mac is driving a pair of definitive technology bp7001sc's. I also have an svs 25-31pci. My main stereo source is a sony cd mega changer. I used the audyssey setup system. I am very happy with the stereo presentation of the system. It sounds like the vocals are coming from the c.c. I actually got up to make sure it wasn't on. The soundstage is very open and well defined. I have listened to a lot of music in the last 10 days and it just keeps getting better. "woman in chains" form tears for fears has never sounded so layered. I guess my point is you do not "need" a dedicated 2 channel system with 2 way monitors to get good stereo playback. This is just my opinion for what it's worth.
