I have been testing various SW to edit AVCHD (1440x1080i, out of Sony CX7EK), and output .mts files for viewing on my HTPC which uses Cyberlink PowerDVD. PowerDVD reads the original footage of my camera without any issue. My PC is Vista 64 bits, Dual Core at 3.0Ghz, 4G of RAM
Pinnacle Studio: I use 11 version; Ok for projects below 10 minutes, however slows down terribly for longer projects to the point of being non usable. In addition, I found out that the quality of the edited video is much worse than the original footage (some faces appear blurred, when they are detailed in the original footage). My past experience with Pinnacle (versions 7, 9) has also been difficult with lots of bugs, so I am wary of upgrading to version 12.
Adobe Premier Element 7: Previewing while editing is very poor. I found out that enabling GPU acceleration makes videos muchs smoother, however the audio is now constantly interrupted with silences. It is too bad, because I really like the feature and interface.
Sony Vegas 9 ultimate: Everything looks fine, except when I view the edited file on PowerDVD: after some time (about 10 minutes), the video slows down, while audio continues smoothly, so both end up out of sync, and video jumps. Is this an issue with Vegas or PowerDVD ?
Cyberlink PowerDirector: My testing period has expired, and I could not do extended tests. What I did looked OK; editing features are very limited though, and I am wondering about the quality of the encoding (see my issue with Pinnacle).
So here is my disappointing experience so far. No SW available seems to work properly, with the possible exception fo Cyberlink (but what about quality ?). I appreciate any help if someone has an idea how to fix some of the issues I am encountering.
