HD-A2 as a 2ch analog device?

Any thoughts on whether the D/A converter is any good for use as a primary CD player? It would be for a very modest system replacing Tosh 4960.

I have an XA2 and it has a pretty good DAC. Not sure about the A2. My issue is it makes for a terrible transport. Any slight imperfections in CDs causing skipping. I think it is to due to the different laser used by HD-DVD.

I currently use a Panasonic s97 for CDs and DVD-Audio, and I've ordered an Oppo 980 so I can use SACDs.

My concern is that I've been pretty happy with the 4960 for regular CD playback and would hate to take a step backwards in this regard. I've given up on SACD/DVD-A so that part doesn't matter. Pretty tempting to replace 3 chassis (xbox 360 add-on, Tosh 4960 and Sony NS-70) with one to tighten up the rack and wiring a bit. I've already ordered the A2 so I'll just have to do some A/B comparisons.

I use a external DAC with my A2 along with my Sen 650's & sounds very good to my ears.
