169time & NextcomWireless: Legit or Scams?

I'm disappointed with copy restrictions on my HD content so I'm looking into one of these solutions.

I know a bunch of people have posted here and there that they've captured something from one of these modified DVRs. I'm just afraid of flushing $500 down the tube. http://www.169time.com doesn't look like the website of a company that sells expensive electronics.

How long does it take to get your DVR? Are there any hidden costs? Is it cheaper to send them a DVR to mod or to buy a modded one? I hope some AVS Forum members who've successfully purchased one of these can put my mind at ease.

Thanks in advance

169time is, for all practical purposes, dead. There's almost no good reason to get their hardware as everything they support is also supported by R5000HD.

As far as the latter, there are plenty of happy owners in this forum. The price is uhm, well, a lot more than it should be, but you pay for the convenience of digital copy.

Happy R5000HD user.

I have a R5K modded Dish 211 ird used with PVR Sagetv.

Yes pricing is a little on the high side.........imo

But they are the only game in town

Thanks for the responses. I'll look into it.

I've used both, with my c-band setup, and they're both good devices.

The R5000-HD is a little slicker, though; especially if you like to archive to dVHS.

Does SageTV and your R5000-HD Modified Dish 211 play seamlessly well together without properties files editing, and have you have any issues with missed or aborted recordings?

Does the pairing handle MPEG2 & MPEG4 H.264 equally well?

Thanks!
