Problem: how to i see or display that DTS HD is being decoded by my 4308? do i need a bluray player with DTS HD capabilities? how about for a toshiba XA2?
Hi hkokko,
Many thanks for taking your time to explain.

First of all, I still could not connect either wired nor wireless.
I checked Network connection on Denon AVR4308CI and it was set to WEP.
I am trying to change to WPA as you suggested, but found 4 different set up under WPA.

They are : WPA2-PSK(AES), WPA2-PSK(TKIP), WPA-PSK(AES) and WPA-PSK(TKIP)

I did try every one of them but FAILED!

I have other question,
What is key means? Is this security key?
If so, I never set any,,, I left blank on my Airport Extreme set up.

My Airport Set Up is,
TCP/IP 10.0.1.2
255.255.255.0
Router 10.0.1.1
IPv6 Auto

Security Blank means, no security password!

Also, I was trying to open radiodenon.com but it could not forward since they did not recognize my ID (AVR4308)
WHY?????

I bought this one from Denon authorized dealer here in Seattle, WA area.
I don't know what to do,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Disclaimer: I am not the expert here.

1)
WPA2-PSK(aes) seemed to work for me. I would try to have a password, Denon/Mac combination seems to be very picky. "Key" is the password.

2) I did register at radiodenon first. And for that I connected my Denon with ethernet cable to my ADSL router.

To register at radiodenon you apparently need to do it the way as described here: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/in...c=47726.0;wap2 The interesting bits are on the "internet radio setup". So you need to figure out your MAC address from your Denon and that would be your ID?.

Just to let you know you're not alone, man. I have the same thing. I bought this kit to use as an audio/video processor and let my NAD M25 do the heavy lifting, but so far I get this really annoying hum that is clearly audible over source material at normal listening levels. It goes away when the amp mute og switch modes, then comes back once signal is re-aquired. The hum is constant level regardless of volume setting, except when muted. Any ideas? I am upgrading the firmware as I type, so I have a slight hope that that will fix it, but I'm not holding my breath....

Hi hkokko,

I talked Denon tech. supervisor along with Denon teck specialist this morning but no success.
They were suggested me to use Lynksis router in stead of Airport extreme. I may try but too tired today.

According to radiodenon.com, they can not fix this also!
A Denon ID is back of this unit just above line of the serial number.
Also I can check ID at a menu system as you described earlier.

I will try one more time (use Lynksis router) and if it's not work,
I will return this one for the NEW ELITE top of the line which is coming soon.
I was told by Denon teck staff that future up-date are also using this method and did not plan to use CD or DVD to up date their AVR.

I am afraid that I may not be able to up-date (if a major up-date required) and only choice I have is, either send back to Denon or Service center.
A nearest service center is about 180 miles from my home,,,,,,,,

I will make up my decision by the end of this week.

I am considering replacing my 3806 with this unit (or the Onkyo 805). I saw where this does 4 zones, but how many does it do before needing an additional amp?

To : hkokko,

As Denon tech as well as you and others suggested to use Linksys, I got and installed this evening but it may still have a problem.

It seems to be no problem to set up this router.
DHCP on
IP Address 192.168.001.100
Default Gateway 192.168.001.001
Primary DNS 192.168.001.001
Secondary DNS 000.000.000.000
Proxy off
*MAC Address 0005cd14783e

Then it said, Connection completed.

When I try to up-date FW (Option Setup, Maint Mode, Update Firmware),
they reject and saying, "Connection failed"

When I try to activate a port (Maint. Mode, Port assign),
it said, Port Open Error - Could not open port.

Web Access Port 10443
Port Mapping Auto

It did not matter Auto or Manual since Manual mode does not input manually.

I did try both wired and wireless.
Wired 85%
Wireless 65%

Anyone has any clue?

Hmmm. that is probably the id then

Hi

Just for the record: I did not suggest to use Linksys (I have no experience with that). I got airport extreme to work and that is the only one I had used. I also did my initial connection via wired (just to get fw updates).

Wishing you luck with the new router.

I'm using a Monoprice 50ft HDMI cable to the Sunbrite and a 35 foot Monoprice HDMI and see no sparklies or any ill effects - but the synching is generally not instantaneous. Both HDMI outputs display the same video source, I believe you need to use component to have a different input for two zones.

I have a 2 zone question: under an HDMI/HDMI 2-zone configuration OR a HDMI/Component 2-zone configuration, is it possible to display 2 inputs simultaneous on 2 different sources? If so, I'm in.

Currently I'm using a 3806 along with a Gefen HDMI splitter to get the job done but it only allows for simultaneous viewing of one source.

I had to give up on wifi (read the last page)

I can tell you that the brand of router you use shouldn't make any difference.. and just because your 4308 says "connected" doesn't mean a thing, until it ALSO shows an ip address which has to start with 192.168.

also, if you're 'connecting' with ad-hoc.. chances are that you're not acutally connected.. the 4308 lies. look for the IP address and test with net radio.

as I said.. I NEVER got mine workling.. and it cost me $100 for a work around.. without Working wifi, the 4308 is hardly worth the price IMO....

Ok, I figured out what's causing it, but I don't know if it's just my unit or if it's a design flaw. I get the hum on the pre-out of any channel when I use any HDMI out. If I switch my monitor and PJ off or disconnect them the hum goes away. So please, if any of you are using the 4308 with a power amp and have this hum, try it. I so want this to be a bad unit, the 4308 is awesome, but the hum makes it useless. I gritted my teeth and sat through all of 20 mitues of television before I had to stop. My head was buzzing from the noise, it was really useless as an audio unit. Please help me out and see if yours does the same.

Although it could be a problem w/ your unit, it really "sounds" like a ground loop problem. Lots of advice available on this issue; e.g.,

http://www.audioholics.com/tweaks/co...m-hum-and-buzz

I am using the 4308 as a preamp/controller connected to separate amps and can report that I have not experienced your problem. However, I have completely isolated my source, display and preamp electronics from my power amps and speakers by using isolation transformers; so even if the problem were generic to the 4308, I would not expect to experience it.
I have all my gear connected to a single multi-tap power source (a Monster power conditioner). Could I still have a ground loop? My monitor, receiver and power amp is using 3-pin grounded leads, and the power conditioner is grounded in the wall outlet.

Thanks!

HDMI to zone 2- NO
Network server audio to zone 2 - YES

With that figured out. My question is if the 4308 will work with a Buffalo Linkstation DLNA NAS server. The Denon manual mentions DLNA in passing with a bunch of other requirements. I'm assuming with plain old DLNA it will work. That's the whole point of DLNA!

Sorry for the late reply.
I'm using a 500 GB Buffalo NAS Linkstation, and I love it.
I can access the photos, video, and music from all of my DLNA certified devices, and then some.
TV - Pioneer Pro-150
Receiver - Denon 4308
PS3
and even my DirecTV HR20-700

I couldn't be happier with how well my equipment communicates with each other. Thanks to DLNA !

Stupid curiosity question. Forgive me in advance if I am way off here.

If you set the receiver to Bi-Amp.......

Can you combine the feeds from L/R Assignable - 2 and L/R Main into single post mains and double the power? I know you cannot bridge the amps but wondered if this would do anything (besides possibly shorting the amp )

More curious than anything and thought some of the experts here could tell me how stupid my curiosity is.

Hi hkokko & rayhdio

I was intent to return this receiver this morning and wait for the new Elite top of the line one but for the last try,,,,, with Linksys router.

Wow!? it's working!!!!!!!
Downloading right now (still 30 more minutes to go)

Now my only problem is,
RadioDenon. No matter how many times I put correct ID, it kick back saying ID could not found and type correct ID.................

I'm talking with Denon tech right now and will advise the result later.

Hope, I could sign in after FW update is completed.

To hkokko,
Again, many many thanks for your patient and advise.

To rayhdio,
Who knows? One day not but may be other day?
Hope, you can get done.

Hi kokko,

As far as RadioDenon is concern,,

Denon, USA now telling me they have known problem connecting (or get into this page to sign in) with Mac computer.

According to one of the tech I talked this morning, their Mac has same problem and could not determine.
They are saying, they will ask Denon, Japan for check and how to correct them.
I suspect, some one screw up to input my ID into their computer,,,,,,,,,,,

Will see!
I will advise you folks as soon as I receive the result.

I just upgraded my xa2 to 2.7 firmware which supports trueHD. I tried changing some settings on both receiver and xa2, but can't get the 4308 display to change to trueHD. If anyone has this combo (xa2 & 4308) and are getting trueHD thru the 4308, what are your settings on both?
Good that you got the net to work. Apparently we can now state that radiodenon registration is not needed for the net connection to work.

Have you tried using Firefox instead of Safari for the radiodenon connection (it really should not matter). I certainly was able to connect there with my Mac (with Safari).

radiodenon.com is unnecessary for your Internet Radio via the Denon. Just go to the NET source and then Internet Radio....lots of stations available. Save some to your Favorites or Presets.

The website didn't recognize my MAC until after I accessed internet radio from the receiver. I think radiodenon.com mentions this...but I might be mistaken about that. The website just allows us easier access to the list of stations, favorites list editing, etc.

In a word, yes. Although it would be better to have an engineer weigh in here. How is your cable/satellite/tv antenna/cable grounded? I had a hum using a different preamp/controller (Outlaw) w/ all equipment connected to a Monster power conditioner. I don't recall if the Outlaw used a 3 prong plug but I eventually ran a separate ground wire from the Outlaw to the Monster.

Hi hkokko and all,

I finally got everything work well.

It was stuck when final 1 minutes to go and nothing progress more than 45 minutes.
I called Denon tech again and reset the receiver to factory preset mode.
Then, I set everything manually.

But this time only took 16 minutes to complete. I guess, most of the files down loaded were kept intact even I did reset to the factory preset mode.

Anyway, it took about 35 minutes to setup all my equipment to work properly.
Now I can listen HD Radio and Internet Radio.
A whole lot stations in the Internet Radio, just like my PC/Vista machine.
I can enjoy JAZZ and Classic with a lots of selection.

Lastly, many thanks to hkokko and others who advise me earlier.

Now, I have to look Ethernet cable splitter to co-use of Airport Extreme and Linksys router.
To hkokko,

I would like to let you know that I can register to DenonRadio now.
I guess, there is a certain set to take in order to register this.

1. Connect internet and eventually have to handshake with Denon.
I believe, Denon check a serial number or ID code to make sure the receiver is
AUTHORIZED in U.S.A. (or for USA and Canada model?)
2. After Denon system recognized and clear this hurdle, their system accept and
register my ID into their system.
3. After that, I could register DenonRadio and got all the information for the internet
radio.

It took me almost 3 full days and additional $54.50 (Linksys modem/cheapest one) and numerous call to Denon but it worth while.

Once again, I am very appreciated your assist and suggestion. THANK YOU!

I was able to get my 4308 to connect wirelessly by making the netid all CAPS and the same for the password in wpa(TKIP). I have a bad router though as it would drop connection, so I have to get a new one. I was using a netgear. Was having problems with dropouts using my Palm TX also. I can get on a neighboring linksys, but the connection is too far away to get a signal with the Denon. I'm going to try a cheapo "trendnet" from compusa, which is <$10 after rebates and see how it works.
I was using UPnP ON also and assigned a network address and dns manually (I use opendns on the router, a bit faster. Those interested, put in your dns as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 as your secondary. This may also be useful for those having trouble with Comcast to try and see if it helps them. If anyone is using a cheap Trendnet g router successfully, please let me know.

Still would like the answer to my question about the RGB vs y,etc setting for a DVI output (which is prefereable as colorspace).

I read on page 70 of the manual that you can alternate on the fly between a 7.1 and a 2-channel bi-amp scenario. I have a 7.1 and would like to bi-amp for 2-channel. That is option 1 in page 70. But isn't that unsafe? When I'm in Multi-channel 7.1 I should have the terminals on my front speakers with the jumpers, when I'm in 2-channel bi-amp I should remove them?

So, that led me to conclude the only safe option is option 3 and option 1 combined. That is, when I'm in Multi-channel I have to make sure I select bi-wire in the Amp assign (page 35) and when I'm in Stereo I have to switch to bi-amp in the Amp assign (page 35). But that is surely a two step. I would really like to use option 1 but am concerned when in Surround mode and the jumpers are removed.

Any opinions
Tks in advance,

You do not need any special settings on the 4308 (other than choose HDMI as the option for Audio for the Input where the XA-2 is connected to - but I'm assuming you're already doing that). On the XA2 you need to enable Bistream. The 2.7 firmware adds a new option to the setup menu / Audio / Digital Direct Audio Mode / On / Off. You need to set it to on.

That is all there is to it. You should get Bistream, I did with the same combo.
Take care,
