Anyone pick up the Host yet, how does it stack up?

Just got it from BB, but I haven't seen any reviews on it yet.

I am waiting for mine to arrive. I am really looking forward at this one. I think I saw some thread a few days ago about it, they posted some screenshots. Look for it.

The movie is kinda cheesy.. if you are into the b-movie Godzilla type movies you'll get a kick out of it. The CGI monster is barely above the level of "made for TV" quality but I think it adds to the overall charm.

Picture Quality wise, it's one of the best out of all my collection. The colors are a little over cranked (like the CSI shows) but the image clarity is astounding and really has that "3D pop". This is what I will demo to my friends.

great movie for "movie night" type events. a monster movie with a lot of humor. i have not seen the BD yet but it is in my Netflix queue. not sure yet if i'd want to own this title.

Sounds right up my alley. I just got it as a birthday present today so I'll probably watch it in a day or two.

I thought the picture looked a bit strange, to be honest... It looked good, but it wasn't clean and crisp, it had a cartoonish look to it almost (edges weren't sharp, they almost melt into each other) -- I wish I had some pictures showing what I was talking about, as I'm sure this will only make people scratch their heads. It looks good, but definitely has a unique look to it in some scenes (haven't watched the whole movie yet, so I'm not sure if it's just those or the entire thing) that I've not noticed elsewhere,

I thought the movie looks great for the most part. Having 2 PCM tracks is nice also, even though the english dub is kinda bad from what I seen. Ya it's cheesy but I like the weird combo of Drama/Horror/SciFi.

Ive heard some decent things about htis movie. I really want to see it. Im trying to find a good deal on it since It would be a blind buy. If anyone on here watches it and doesnt like it let me know. Ill be happy to get a good deal on a used copy.

I saw some previews of it and it seemed there was some angry lizard creature terrorizing people. Sounds like a blind buy winner to me!

Saw it on an imported Korean DVD last Summer. Quality was horrible but enjoyed the film immensly. Was subtitled only. No dub track. Can't wait to screen the Blu-ray version.

I just watched the BD last night and that I'll echo these comments. I was not expecting such great PQ but this disc really delivers! Easily in the top 5 in terms of PQ of over 150 BDs I've seen.

Just rented last night and I am going to buy it. Loved it. So well done . PQ was terrific, but the sound design...FANTASTIC.

I watched the BD last night. Movie was ok, not a "buy" for me. I was surprised to see as much EE as I did. It wasn't terrible, but there were quite a few instances.

Correction: angry fish creature!

This is definitely a blind buy for me. I held off of buying the import. I was going to buy the HD DVD but when I heard the Blu ray had PCM and the HD DVD didn't I knew I have to get the Blu ray. Now all I need to do is find a used copy of Host and a used Blu ray player. Doh!

great movie - picture is good (not the best but good) and the sound is excellent.

some of my friends love it and some of then said it was ok. depends on what your tastes are but i loved it.

Bought this in Blu over HD DVD. PQ and AQ are both top notch. Commentary is in English and cast interviews are all subtitled in English.

It may be best to go in to this movie blind. Bought it at Frys on impulse just by looking at the cover and seeing the cover.

Loopy doesn't begin to describe the story. Government conspiracy and illness fears, mental illness, genuinely touching emotional moments, funny bits, obvious homages to other horror films and a great monster are all there.

watched it the first time and the reaction throughout was WTF????? The second time through is a lot more fun and you appreciate a lot of the more subtle parts.

It's brave film making that doesn't always work, but when it does it does well.

Picture and sound are definitely demo worthy. i'm glad i bought it.

PS. I have a friend who is korean and listened to it undubbed. According to her the dialog is cheesy in Korean as well, obviously by design.

I was very impressed by the picture and sound quality of this release. I felt the dubbing was pretty bad, some of the lines sounded like they were being read instead of acting, and the changes of the dialogue versus the subtitles seemed significant (which is the usual case with dubs). For the movie, I felt it lost momentum half way through after a great beginning. Definitely worth a rent for anyone interested.

What I really liked about this movie was the ending.

If this was hollywood, they would've taken the pussy "Man on Fire" safe approach.

the pussy approach Creasy would have lived. the ending of this one is definitely surprising, i keep thinking she would come around and wondering why what got her didnt get the other kid.

reviews of this movie just showed up on HDDigest for both formats. can they still say size doesnt matter? BD includes not one but two extra tracks, both uncompressed pcm. when i find one under $20 i'm buying this movie.
Hi-Def Digest has posted a review that gives both picture and sound near perfect marks
(4.5 stars/5 stars) Compared to HD DVD they rate video the same but the uncompressed sound on BD gets the top rating.

Finally watched it last night, awesome movie, I especially love how the creature was revealed. Only thing I am hazy on, did the operation on Gang-du some how change him?

Le CGI is nice... it's way better integrated than KK... witch is one of the worst attemp in CGI in the 15 year..
This movie was the top selling ticket sold in Korea in 2006 at over 10,000,000 sold....(that's a lot in Korea)

I don't know how "bad" KK was but more than a few people in the movie forum mentioned the issues with the CGI in The Host.

Its a very nice looking transfer...lots of depth and pop to the image. It kind of reminded me of Cranks transfer with slightly less pumped up contrast. I watched with the Korean PCM track and it was pretty awseome. The english dub was not the worst I have heard but I just preffered the Korean track. Movie was pretty entertaining. This was a great blind buy for me.

I just watched the HD-DVD copy from blockbuster.com and enjoyed it immensely. Did a quick search and found out the BD version has a PCM track. Found a copy on half.com for $16 and change and snatched it immediately. Can't wait to view it again in all its uncompressed audio glory.

I was waiting for this movie to finally hit the streets after reading reviews at rottentomatoes. It's rated very high and my kind of movie, so it was a blind buy. Changed from HD-DVD to BD based on better sound (and all things being equal, I buy BD due to coating and better player in PS3). The PQ and AQ are fantastic and glad I made this
purchase. I got it via Amazon with 10% discount, no tax and free shipping. It's worth every penny. Very entertaining flick. The fire was very fake looking at end, but otherwise it was decent enough CGI/effects to not take away from viewing.
