Onkyo PR-SC885P Preamp thread

Thread Starter
I'm surprised I had not heard about this before, or if I did the thread must have got lost in the mix.

Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P Preamp

A Fusion of Rock-Solid Power and Hi-Def Precision
The foundation of the PR-SC885P is its toroidal transformer along with 2 independent audio and video transformers. You'll also find a blend of onboard technologies to prime your home theater for high-definition playback. You're looking at the first HDMI equipped OnkyoPro preamp processor to take up to four components with 1080p video and master-quality audio capabilities. All other signals, from 480i on up, can be upscaled to 1080p via HQV Reon-VX. Also, THX, Audyssey and Burr-Brown lend the very best of their expertise to round out this high-quality control center.

Special Features

HDMI 1.3a Switching
Reon-HQV HD video scaling up to 1080p
Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding

Had I known about this, I might have held off for it. There is just something about seperates that intrigues me.

Anyone have a line on these?

That is the Onkyo "Pro" version, of the new Integra DTC-9.8, from Onkyo's pro sound division. If you look around in the Integra 9.8 thread here, you will maybe find out a little bit more about it. I know there has been some limited mention of it in there.

Some people have gotten their hands o n the DTC 9.8 so far I don't think I've seen anyone get their hands on this yet - I'm not sure it is shipping yet. It is essentially the same as the 9.8 - although there are differences - price, warranty, color/look

My Onkyo Pro dealer just called me and told me Onkyo will begin shipping these Mid August.

When he told me what my cost would be (list is $1800), I just about fell off my chair at the low number he quoted me. While I can't say what he quoted me, I can tell you that my discount off list is more than twice the msrp difference between this and the 9.8.

Needless to say, I told him I'll take it. So it will be dropped shipped directly to me.

Can't wait!

I found a number of pro audio online retailers who carry some of the Onkyo Pro line gear. None had the SC885P listed for pre-order. I have no Onkyo Pro dealer anywhere near me and would be interested in an online source. If anyone knows anything about possible online sales, please post or PM me.

Thanks
I do not have any Onkyo Pro dealers near me either. I had to go out of state. The good news is that I don't have to pay tax, and drop shipping was only $22.

You might want to check the Onkyo Pro dealer locator and call around.

Does anyone know if the rack handles can be removed?

R
I would be suprised if they came shipped with the mounts installed. Most likely you would get the rack kit in the box.
If it is true that the rack handles are indeed removable and are shipped unassembled in a kit in the box, then score one more check mark in the plus column in additional to features and looks. Were previous versions of rack mounted Onkyo Pro model components shipped this way?
I got a quote on the Integra version which was pretty decent.
What's the difference in invoice prices between the two?
About $200 difference in msrp with the IRK-175-4 Rack Mount Kit included with the SC885P, but an optional expense with the DTC-9.8.

Onkyo Professional PR-SC885P - $1800 MSRP
Integra DTC-9.8 - $1600 MSRP

Hello - Thanks for the post...Would you be so kind to provide me the dealer contact information that you purchased your Onkyo from? I just finished working 20 hours of Overtime specifically to be able to buy this machine.

Thanks for the help & have a great day!

Anyone have a good price and Dealer for either the Onkyo or the Integra? I would like to be the proud owner of either one.

I think the rumor of an Onkyo/Integra pre/pro is an elaborate hoax. It's probably one of those bait-n-switch schemes where they sucker you in with the great feature list on these pre/pro's and then try to sell you a cheap AVR.

You mean similar to a $10,000 purse on display at Luis Vuitton to crash people's self confidence first, then regain it later by buying a $200 key chain?

Ene mene miney mo, catch a pre/pro by the toe!
If you look through the big long Integra thread, you would see that the Onkyo and 9.8 are practically identical. The list prices are different (probably because the rack mounts are included for the Onkyo), and the warranty length might be different.

No one has done a comparision between the T175 and the Onkyo/Integra yet. I believe that they are both using the same DSP engine though.

anyone got one of these yet ?

I did a web search last night and only a couple of dealers listed them for pre-order and none had any in stock. I e-mailed B&H in New York and they had never heard of it, though they seem to stock most of Onkyo's pro gear. Most pro audio gear gets discounted quite a bit, so I'm hoping to see some advantageous prices as these get into the market. The Integra model has been very slow to roll out as well.
I called a few very nice Onkyo pro dealers as well, they said this thing was entirely sold out from Onkyo, the first run was all gone and they couldn't even begin to give me a estimate on when more would be available

UPS just dropped my ONKYO PR-SC885 at my home today. I ordered this on July 26,2007. The people I ordered it from said it would ship from the manufacturer . After four weeks and not hearing anything I called the person I ordered it from . He got back to me an hour later and told me it was out for delivery. I will be setting it up this weekend . I just do not have time this week. This thing weights 30 pounds. It is heavier than some receivers. 41 pounds was the shipping weight.
Thomas, you are the first I have heard of recieving one of these. Where did you get it? I've had one on order since July 25th.
I have one on order now also along with the Integra, I am going to compare them and take pics of the innerds
