I'm a little confused as to how the Onkyo and Integra and Onkyo pro lines are related, and how they compare. ( If this is the wrong thread, where should I go?)
First, I "need" (want) a new AVR or prepro that could serve as a central control for an HD video system and a multi-channel SACD and stereo audio system. I have power amps and speakers, and an HD projector. I am impressed with the features and initial reviews of the Onkyo 875 and 905 receivers. (I'm particularly interested in the audio quality, and the Onkyos have the ability to receive SACD sound via HDMI 1.3 and process it internally, plus all the new video audio formats. Along with controlling HD video, etc..)
!. Does the SC885P have all the features, including HDMI 1.3, of the Onkyo 905 (other than the power amps)?
2. In what respects would the 885 be an improvement over the 905 AVR, providedthe 905 was used as a preamp, using external power amplifiers? (Other than the elimination of the power amps, cooler operation, etc.) - Is it of a basically better or different design than the processing and preamp sections of the 905 receiver, or are the parts of higher quality? Would the audio be better ( if the same external amplifiers were used)? (The reason I ask is that I might use the Onkyo AVR's amps for some applications.)
3. Does the Integra line differ in quality from the Onkyo line, or the Onkyo pro line? Does their high-end AVR have all the features preovided in the Onkyo 905.
I suppose that my basic question is whether the 885, or the Integra line, would offer significant (and audible) advantages over the Onkyo 905, which is apparently going to be available at a significant discount, not much more (less?) than the 885.
