I don't have the update in hand yet and I was lucky that mine came with the 1.4 firmware. If I get it today I will let you know.

If anyone has an A2 outputting 1080i please let me know what your configuration is. Thanks.

I have not hooked up th A2 yet, I am waiting for HDMI cables from monoprice. They shipped it priority mail, and they should have shown up Monday, but still not here. Maybe tommorow. Will let you know.

Thanks for the offer of an update, but I have already done it.

I talked directly to a U.S. rep for Onkyo about the lip-sync delay. He stated that they knew about the problem and had no fix. It may not be fixable with firmware. As I suspected, if you do not use the Reon to scale, then the audio delay is there. I re-interated that any fix including an additional delay when passing through the video is preferable to no fix.

He stated that they are working on the fix for next years model. There is always hope, but I fear the worst. If you are not using this for video processing, it is broken.

That's odd. I applied the new firmware, and the lip sync issues watching TV appear to be gone. Have you updated your's?

My 885 came with 1.04 and I did a firmware update also, just in case.
It is still there...

Do you use the Reon to scale?

No, cable direct to TV, no cable box. Although I am planning to upgrade to an HD cable box soon, and will then try it direct, and running through the Reon.

Still, if your Display has a delay equal to or greater than the 885/9.8 processing, your good.

While that is true, I did have the problem before the update.

Hello,

My 885 will be here Thursday. To check the software you press the display and standby button at the same time. Will the receiver go back to its default setting or do I need to press the buttons again for the display to go back to normal. I am hoping it will already have the new update. I plan on using this for about 1 month till my other piece gets here.

Do you have an 885? If so, where did you get the firmware?

Yes, an 885. I got firmware both from a forum member, and direct from Onkyo on CD. A file compare shows they are identical.

we need a rapidshare link

My cable box and Toshiba HD-A1 are both outputting 1080i. The 885 is outputting 1080p through Reon no problem.

I've rapidshared for 9.8, I'll be happy to do the same for 885 if ya send me a copy.
The sync thing for me only seems to happen on certain channels from my cable box. I've tried both the upconvert thru the 885 and through and only really notice it on TNT-HD and NBC-HD consistantly, but they were out of sync before I got the 885.

My a35 and BDP-95fd both look in sync thru the 885. I have not done the firmware update as of yet. I have it but don't have a PC (Mac only). Since I don't have Leopard yet I can't run the boot camp beta as it has expired.

I was planning on trying the 9.8 firmware on my 885 - maybe not a great idea after all even though the two are essentially the same. Even the web page the 885 displays is Integra branded.

I think I will wait.

Thanks good to know. My A2 will not do it. I have tried every setting on the 885 and as soon as I select the A2 as a source the A2 switches from 1080i to 720p. I don't know what is going on but I have too much work to do to deal with it now so I'll just let it go for a couple of days.

Anyone having issues with lipsync using the multichannel inputs from a BH100? Can you adjust anything on the multichannel inputs or is it a straight pass-thru? I have a 9.8 and the audio is ahead of the video so I need to delay it but the BH100 does not have time correction built in so I was hoping the 9.8 would let me adjust.

Rich, that info just made me cancel my order today and go
with Denon 3808. Tired of waiting for something to be broken anyway...

To be fair, you probably would not have the lip-sync problem if you are going to use the Reon or if your display has a similar delay.

It's strange that this is a problem. I am using a 9.8 right now with the Reon processing bypassed and I haven't had a single issue with lip synch from any source regardless of what it is (though I don't use cable). I've used 3 Blu-ray players, 2 HD DVD players, the Xbox 360 and an Oppo DVD player so far.

Could you share any of your impressions of the 9.8 so far?

Got the A2 hooked up last night. Set it to 1080i, and it stays at 1080i, no matter what resolution I set the 885 to, or if I set it to passthrough. The TV shows that it is recieving whatever I set the Reon to as it should too.

Thanks for the info. This really has me confused. I tried again this morning. I have tried setting the 885 to 1080i, 1080p, auto, through and no matter what as soon as the 885 switches to that HDMI input the A2 goes from 1080i to 720p. I have tried with the TV off thinking there was something weird with the handshake and still nothing. I did update the firmware on the A2 before I plugged it into the 885. Maybe it has something to do with that. I'll try a different HDMI imput tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Oh and I am using monoprice HDMI cables which I think are the same as yours so that should not be the problem either and it was the same cable I used with my old receiver.

I also updated my A2 before hooking it up. And the cable should not make a difference. Maybe there is a problem with the A2?
