The "Official" Yamaha RX-Vn800 anticipation thread (with HDMI 1.3)

It's a great time to need a new receiver. Serious contenders from Onko, Integra, Denon, Pioneer, Sony, and Yamaha. I don't think I can remember the last time there were so many hyped receivers.

I'm also waiting for HDMI 1.3 compatible Yamaha receiver to replace my RX-V2500. I was looking for at least 3 to 4 in and 2 out. It looks like RX-V2800 is going to fit the bill. Hopefully they also fixed 1080P/24 pass through problems with the current HDMI receivers.

I also will be looking to replace my V2500. As long as one of these guys have at least 3 HDMI inputs, as well as like number component inputs, then this will be the year for me.

So it would appear that the Yammy 1800 will be directly compared to the new Onkyo 875 model and the 2800 will be matched up against the 905.

As I have yet to pull the trigger on the 875 I've been eyeing (that are just now becoming available), I may have to hold out a bit longer to see all the official details and release dates for these two products form Yamaha.

And the thing is, there's no clear winner. They each have features and goodies others don't.

However, if the new Yamahas have REON, it's a no brainer for me. I have the 6060 right now and it's fantastic.

I have the 5960 and cant wait for the 1800 to come out, I also hope it has better up conversion. I'm actually excited to see this thing come out. It will be a nice upgrade.

Looks like none of these have HD radio built in. That would have been nice. That to me is the one draw of the Onkyo 905.

looks like only the 2800 and 3800 are contenders to have the Reon HQV Video processor (over the 1800), just from the feature set, looks like the hdmi ports on the 1800 are for switching purposes, and high quality uncompressed audio, unlike the other two who can deinterlace and scale SD and sub True HD material, although anything is possible, and I wouldn't put too much weight in these specs until yamaha comes out with the official specs in Aug.

What's the big advantage behind the Reon? Surprised that makers like Denon don't put a better component in a receiver that costs ~$2k.

Seems odd that the 1800 wouldn't have analog upconversion at that price point...

If all you watch is Hi def movies and you have a 1080p display, then nothing. Reon is much better at de interlacing/upscaling than most other processors. It also doesn't suffer from the macro blocking issue that the DcDi has, in the past.


Don't know what you're getting at here. Are you talking about the processor?

I was just wondering why you would use an inferior processor on a pretty high end receiver. Keep costs down, obviously, but if you're a premium brand name, that doesn't make much sense to me.

So, if I'm watching regular DVD's or cable TV (SD or HD) on a 1080i/720p display, would I be able to tell the difference with the Reon over the Faroudja?

If you are talking about the new Denons then maybe. We have yet to see some in depth reviews of how the faroudja performs in this years lineup. Might be the same ol' but Denon also might have a trick up their sleeve.

The Reon is supposedly a much better upscaler and should make SD content look much better. I can tell you from experience, owning the 875, that I have a tough time telling the difference between it and the faroudja processor in my Pioneer 84. Now if only a sub 2000 dollar receiver would implement Realta.

I don't know which I find more odd, that no one puts gold plated connectors including the speaker binding posts on receivers at this price range or Yamaha is choosing to do when no one else is.

I know it doesn't matter much but I've always hated the cheap connectors use and I am not buying the flagship model just to get decent connectors.

My current receiver is a Yamaha the thing that I noticed the most when I first got it is how fast it detects the sound format, when my old NAD takes a few seconds. I would have been tempted to get the Onkyo if it wasn't for the 4 seconds it takes to detects the sound format. Denons have a high THD for an receiver in their price range. So it looks like I going for Yamaha again.

Recently Yamaha seems to be paying more attention to the sound quality which is great, stops me from wanting to sacrifice features for hi-fi and wait for Rotel/Marantz.

Any news on when they are "actually" coming out?

They haven't been introduced yet. Why would they be on the HQV page?

Either have the Denon receivers which are "Available in October 2007" and they are listed on there. If you read it, you would know.

And it doesn't matter if they don't have it. I had always bought Sony ES AVR's until my last go around and bought the Yamaha 5790 and its the best receiver I've owned. My next receiver will be a Yamaha no matter what chips are in it.

Denon has announced them, they just aren't available yet. Even the new Denon Blu-ray player is not listed and it has been announced.
