Help me pick a 42" LCD please, olevia, vizio, etc...

Hey guys.

The time has finally come to go buy myself a new TV.

Ive posted a couple times trying to get a feel for where I want to be, and I had settled on a olevia 542i for around $1000. Ive got just over a grand, but i tighten things up a bit I could probably $1200.

These are my main choices:
1. Olevia 542i (cheapest of the bunch, but only 720p, and 1 HDMI input)
2. Vizio VU42LF (supports 1080p res, 2 HDMI inputs)
3. Vizio GV42L (supports 1080p, but downs it to 720p, 2 HDMI,
4. Vizio GV42LF (native 1080p, 2 HDMI )

I thought 720p was enough, but for another $200 and extra HDMI input should I spend a bit more and future proof for 1080p?

I dont have a costco membership, is it worth getting or using my dads to get the VU42LF and trying to catch a price drop within 90 days?

What is the best value/purchase? Considering picture quality, service for returns, inputs, etc.

I own the Vizio VU42LF and am VERY HAPPY with it.

Try it for 90 days and return it if you don't like it unconditionally. If you do keep it, Costco extends your warranty for a full 2 years.

Any other pointers? I really dont want to make a $1000+ decision without knowing everything I can.

If you buy from Costco, you spread the risk of knowledge and your decision over 90 days since you can return it unconditionally. That's why I bought my first LCD from Costco. I am now in day 45 of my $1000 decision and am VERY happy with it.

So, your tip is to read these forums, talk to friends, visit a lot of stores and then pull the trigger and take a chance based upon your research.

Spend your money on a Top tier brand that will be able to service in a year if you need it. There is so many options in the 40-42 size range. Costco does not always have good prices on tvs they buy in bulk but prices have been falling so fast that if you shop around alot of the stores can beat coctco because they have newer stock baught at lowert prices. Go to a place like Pricegrabber and search LCDs in that size you will get a good idea whats available and what you should pay.

Can I ask why we arent allowed to talk prices? I havent seen a post somewhere stating this.

And by no means was i tied to costco. I had some online options listed also. Basically I wondered if the Vizio's were worth the extra cost for PQ and some features. And if I should go the instore route, or online to save a bit but face the return hassle of buying online.
