Makeshift antenna - How to...

Thread Starter
hello
i've tried everything when it comes to antennas for my OTA HD in Toronto. however, the best antenna that i have found is the (what appears to be) the FM wire that came with my Media Center PC. it has a coaxial head to it and then a 6' wire that splits at the end into 2 wires.
does anyone have any thoughts on how i can make a very long version of this? i would like to run it outside and then up the balcony wall, weaving it back and forth to have as much wire outside as possible.
or if anyone has any other ideas, i would love to hear it.
thanks

Got a list of stations you are trying to receive with their broadcast frequency and approximate distance from the stations? Is your balcony facing the broadcast towers?

I recommend making one of the antennas discussed in the thread below. Depending on your situation, a two-bay bowtie may work well for you. That is the first antenna discussed in the thread, and it's made with coat hangers, tin foil, and a bit of wood. A four-bay is discussed later in the thread, and lots of variations as well. If it works and you don't like the looks or the quality of construction, you can always buy a commercial version of the design that works for you.
