Question about receipt for 5 free BR movies

Thread Starter
The form says "Receipt from you eligible Blu-ray player purchase imprinted with the store name and dated between 7/01/07 through 9/30/07 with purchase price circled."

Can I send a copy?

Thanks,

just make sure when you place your choices you choose one movie from each line 1,2,3,4,5 you can't pick multiple movies from the same line. or else they will choose the movies for you... that's what the lady on the phone told me

Yes, you can send a copy of the receipt. The UPC needs to be the original from the box, though.

hello,

i saw the ad for the 5 free blue-ray movies in the latest issue of "the perfect vision". my problem is that their rules state that no copies of the for are permitted, and the back of the page with the form is a great article.

what do you suggest?

I had a problem with that too. When I bought my PS3 my receipt had the serial number of my unit on it. I made a photocopy of it and stuck it in the envelope.

I then photocopied my UPC, serial number, and the third bar code (not sure what it was for), all on one sheet of paper and stuck that in the envelope.

I don't know why they NEED the original UPC in the first place. It just doesn't make sense. A receipt with the serial number and a photocopy of that serial number should be good enough, if you ask me.

I have yet to hear a confirmed case of someone being denied because they sent in a photocopy of their UPC and serial number. Until someone actually tells me that's the reason they didn't get their movies then I figure, if it works and I get my discs, great. If it doesn't work then I'm not out anything since the movies were free in the first place. I wasn't too impressed with the selection in the first place.

I guess I'd just prefer to keep my UPC intact on the box in case I should ever need to take it back to the store and exchange it if it's defective.

Do you want the five free movies or not? Send in the original UPC code from the box. You don't need it for warranty repair. It can be removed without destroying the box.

Cutting the UPC from the box will ruin any possibility of returning the unit to a store if it is defective or you have an issue with it (such as fan noise, for example). I think its a really BAD idea to cut the UPC from the box.

Most stores only give you a 30 day return after the 30 days cut out the bar code they will not take it back any way.I usually wait the 30 beforesending any rebates in.

This is not true at Circuit City or HH Gregg...

This process is no different than any of the many rebates I've had to mail in over the years. Cell phones, software, hardware, etc.

I did see on one of the rebate forms that copies of your original store receipt is acceptable.

The whole idea behind requiring the original UPC is to avoid having people buy a player, photocopy the receipt and UPC code, and return the player but still get the five free discs. Rebates work the same way to avoid people buying a product, photocopying the information to get the receipt and returning the product.

Most stores will not accept a return in a box missing the UPC code, so that way they know you're not just trying to get the free discs.

Note that most stores will still accept an exchange in such circumstances, though for obvious reasons they may keep the box from the player you exchange yours for.

not true at BestBuy either.

As long as the Serial number matches your receipt no problem.

Now if you return if for a REFUND usually they deduct the value of the rebate, which in this case would probably be the MSRP*5 or $315

After 30 days you would be dealing with Sony if you have a problem and either a repair or and exchange directly through them.

If you are paranoid, as suggested earlier, just wait the 30 days or whatever the store's return policy is and then cut the UPC off and send it in. The UPC is at the top of the box and the box remains intact.

I bought the panasonic and returned to BestBuy without the box or the included movies with no problems. I am now up 10 free blu-rays. I didn't do this for that reason, I got a PS3 instead but definitely in my favor. Now if I can talk my neighbor into letting me use his address for the 5 free movies from my PS3, I'll be at 15 free Blu-Rays.

I received my 5 free BD movie today (3-4 weeks after sending it it in) . Not bad turn around (compared to months on free HD-DVDs).
