how to hang ceiling fan when using clips?

may be a dumb question but since I am using the RSC clips and 2x drywall how do you hook up a ceiling fan -since the support is hooked to the joist there is a large drop to the drywall- also does anyone know the shortest fan as I only have about 8 inches from the ceiling till it shows on the screen=

Many options for haning ceiling fans, and there are all types of ceiling fan options. Some fans mount to the ceiling with little or no extension, and of course, you can buy different lengths of extensions. Check out:

You could use clips support the brace to which fan outlet is attached. You can use a low profile fan if ceiling height is an issue. clickie You just may be limited for colors.

I suppose the easiest solution would be to choose a hat channel of strong enough gauge that you could support the fan box from the channel (with a few #6 hex head screws or similar)

If you used 5/8+1/2 it should work out about perfect.

All fans I've installed have a "close mount" option whereby you don't use a hanger rod. I think you could get about 8", not sure, that is pretty tight.
