The speakers on the 37D62U are extremely weak so any improvement to the speakers would be nice.

Hopefully the early adapters will give us a review on their new TVs as soon as they're available. It will interesting to find out if the banding problem as been solved.

I thought they would be 120Hz but the pamphlet said 60Hz. Besides that and a banding issue, there isn't much improvement from the 72U series. The price difference should reflect on that.

I'm still looking for a 42" since Feb. 42D72U is hardly marketed here (on west coast). My guess is many stores will replace the 62U series with the 64U series soon. It'd be a benefit for some consumers who prefer to exchange or return locally.

The 64u series is 120Hz. Also the 64U is intended to replace the 62U not the 72U, whatever replaces the 72U will come later.

The d72u model is not carried by most big box retailers. Normally it is found at regional chains

The 64U series do weigh less, even the 65in comes in at only 100lbs

Do we have any real word on a release date for these yet?

I think the 64U series are 60hz... according to the press release Sharp will release 120Hz model in early 08....
Where in Sharp's press release did you see mention of '08 or 60 or 120hz? Is there another press release?

The pamphlet is in #19.

It's too bad that this set is only 60hz, I will pull the trigger on a 120hz only!

The 92U has 120Hz frame rate conversion...

You are right the 64U are 60Hz, i misread the brochure I have. According to Sharp they will unveil the new 120Hz models at CEDIA in 2 weeks, and rumor has it theyll also unveil their new Blu-Ray player too, which Ive learned has the quickest load time of any Blu-Ray player.

The 82U is 120Hz too

I think the best two things about the 64U are the fact that the unit is slimmed down so the 42D64U can fit inside the footprint of a 42in, and that the 64U series will all utilize the 4 color backlight system

I see where the 64U is in stock at MacMall.com and a couple of other outfits... how soon before they are in CC, BB, etc...

Was supposed to be by the end of this month, but neither BBY or CCY in Houston even have the models in their systems yet.

I think this is gonna be the TV I've been waiting for. I was about to pull the trigger on the 42D72U for my first ever HDTV purchase, but am glad I waited. The 64U series looks like it'll be available at Best Buy (which I have some gift cards for) which makes returning a whole lot easier - if there are any defects.

I like the fact that its energy star compliant too! Correct me if I'm wrong, but this looks like a leaner, slightly tweaked version of the 72U.

Let's hope they get them in stock before all the big labor day sales, and most importantly before the football season!
Would dearly love to see a review of this model. Anybody have one yet?
I guess the waiting game begins all over again for me. I was considering on getting the current sents but due to the issues, which are mentinoed n the thread which I have also seen for myself in stores, I decided to wait for new models.

Hopefully this will be the asnwer. I'll probably for for a 94 model if those are in the works.
AFAIK there has not been any of these panels available yet, and I dont think they are even being shown in any big store's computers. Just popping on and off of online retailers.

As for the 94's (74's, 84's???) no mention of anything from the Sharp camp yet, so I guess the waiting game is all there is.

The 64U is now available from Amazon, sold by Office Depot. This is good news, cause you can always take it back to the local Office Depot if there is a problem... If the banding is fixed, this is the set to have...

looked it up at Amazon, and it says usually ships in 4-6 weeks. Is this normal for amazon, or is this them saying we dont have any yet?

These don't have 120hz.
Looks like the 52" is in stock at quite a few places now. I haven't seen the others anywhere, though.
Judging by the HUGE price drop on the 42d62U's at BB and CC, they're trying to unload those first.

ALMOST makes me want to try my luck with the 62U.
I am also tempted by the significant price drops on the 62U since they are now considered clearance. Anyone see anything fundamentally wrong with the 62U vs the 64U?

Just that the contrast ratio is pretty weak. And there's always the banding, but of course there's no guarantee that the 64Us won't have that too.

And I've heard some scattered reports of problems with audio passthrough on the 42D62U, but I don't know the exact nature of that issue. It sounded pretty annoying, in any case.

There probably isn't much potentially unsatisfactory about the 62U that you wouldn't be able to decide for yourself by seeing it in person.
42 and 46 are not out as of yet, however the 52D64U is out there

OK, so John Doe desides I am getting a sharp now what are the differences here with all these current models

52D62U
52D64U
52D82U
52D92U

WOW !!
