Your exactly right. The footprint of the Phoenix is 22" square and the grammas are good length but not width or visa versa.

Thats only a inch and a half difference and if you split it thats only 3/4 of a inch diff on each side and should still fit . It doesnt have to fit perfect as long as the feet fit on the gramma . He could probably measure the feet and see if it would fit .

also you can turn the gramma sideways if need be because its depth is longer.

I have the feet at 19 1/2" outside edge to outside edge. So if something was 20" square it would work out OK. The Great Gramma is 30X19 and the Gramma is 23x15.

If you have enough room maybe you could place 2 grammas together, just a thought .

So two days after I sent an email to epik inquiring why absolutely none of their subs are available, I get a response stating that none of them will be available until (at least) after the holidays.

Ummm, ok. A subwoofer company not offering subs for 6+ weeks is like mcdonalds running out of hamburgers and french fries for a month and a half.

LOL Epik makes a great product that is made to order... McDonalds, on the other hand, doesn't do either of these things. McDonalds also has 31,000+ locations, Epik has 1.

Yep. Neither are turkeys on thanksgiving. It of course is a CORE priority of a business entity to anticipate, project, manuever, and address demand by manipulating their supply chain.

Of course the POINT is, any company that goes months without having ANY of its CHIEF (or ONLY) product for sale has some items it may want to address.

But what do I and my MBA know?

^ funny u mention mcdonalds in the made to order frame. I just read a case study that revealed 90+% of what you order from mcdonalds during "normal" business hours IS either made to order or less than 60 seconds old.

How the hell do u suppose they do that? Now, as for what's IN it, well that's anothe case study!

I'm not trying to bash epik, I just feel bad that they have to turn away customers (yes, "we're currently not taking orders" appeared in my email) during some prime purchasing weeks.

That's overly harsh. Epik is a small operation with just a few employees. It's awesome that their demand is so high in this economy. Just goes to show the value in their product.

Have you not marched much outside of well known B&M brands? I'm into several hobbies aside from home theater and when you get into smaller, niche, made-to-order products/companies excessive waiting times and supply/demand issues are not unusual.

Guess theres always two sides of the coin and I can totaly understand what he's saying, I know I wouldnt be happy if I went to order a sub and was told it would be a few months On the other side at least Epic isnt rushing production and jeopardizing quality for quantity and or taking orders knowing peeps wont get there subs for months. Or Maybe they just need a break for the holidays

I don't know about the business decisions of Epik anymore than you do but this is a small company and Chad has done an excellent jobs keeping delivery times consistent during this run. Hes probably worked is ..... off during this time period keeping up with demand.

Ever think the holidays are here and they just might want a break, who could blame them? I'm not saying that's what happened but seems completely logical and deserved to me if that's the case. He runs a 1 location operation and isn't supplying product/s or supplies to chain or locations such as Mcdonalds so that's totally not comparable.

Plus he doesn't have to worry about a busy season. When production does ramp up again it's a pretty safe bet he's going to be back in the same situation filling orders as before. He makes a damn good product.

I can understand the frustration of wanting one and finding out it wasn't available and that sucks. If you don't want to look elsewhere or wait it out keep an eye out for used. Several including me have done that during an upgrade path, it'll happen just a matter of when.

Hmmmm..law of supply and demand....

Problem with those Aurelex solutions, they don't fit the footprint of the Phoenix. The Phoenix has down firing ports. If you don't have one of those "subdude" types of risers that are as big, or bigger, that all 4 corners of the feet can be supported, those ports will be blocked.

Regarding the "sold out" situation, Chad's operation is small. There are benefits to that. First, the design and manufacture of his products are very controlled, and managed by him. There's very little that goes wrong with his products, as a result.

The downside, and Chad seems to be OK with this, he builds what he can, until he runs out. The last time this happened, he took the hiatus to redesign all the subs before going back into production. Don't know if he'll do the same this time, as this generation of Eipk subs have been out less than a year. But, I could see him taking a breather and cranking back up after 2010 hits.

I know I would be more than willing to do that, given the chance, in my own work.

The analogy I made to mcdonalds in the exact context I proposed and explained is true and verifiable...no need to stretch it beyond its pointed scope. "taking a break" during the most favorable buying window of the year is simply not a reality for 99% of of ANY business, regardless of their product or service- ESPECIALLY during these economic times.

Having to turn away customers is one of the absolute WORST scenarios any company can envision.

customer: "Hi, I'd like to order (2) widgets please."
sales rep: "I'm sorry, we're not taking orders right now. Please come back in 2 months."

Bitch, bitch, bitch Did you order one Yet?? Or are you going to continue on and on? Comparing a subwoofer to food? It's a want, not a need. C'mon! I'm sure you know there are other ID companies out there that can get a sub to you in a matter of days because they stock them. I waited for my JTR speakers for well over a month as well but, it was worth it. Do you not have a sub currently that can hold you over for a little while longer? Have a good weekend, James.

I have to agree with james on this one. It is surprising for any business (large, medium, small, or startup) to be completely out of ANY product, especially during these times, and during this time of year. I d**ked around too long and did not get a sub ordered from them (shame on me), but I can assure you I won't be waiting for 2-3 months to order one. As as been stated earlier, there are several other companies (ID and B&M) from which to order now (the beauty of a competitive marketplace). It will be interesting to see what happens with Epik when they come back to the market (customer response, new product(??), etc)

I would tend to agree with you, running out product, especially during this season, probably would not only significantly cut into your future revenues but affect future and current customer base also. However, I am certain if Epik would deliver products of less quality as they do today, the affects in both areas would be even more significant. But, we really don't know the issues that brought about this, perhaps one of his suppliers had a hiccup. I conjecture this sale on some of the sub-woofers got ahead of Chad and he ran out of amplifier stock. Since he doesn't realize revenues until he delivers the product, it may be a credit issue. Even though he has invoices in hand, it is hard to get credit for small business. Growing a small business in the present enviroment, can be difficult and terrifying. For whatever reason "Crap happens", mistakes are made in any business. I think most of his customer base holds Epik's products in high value and are willing to wait for him.

During the first run of the original Epik subs a couple of years ago, Epik did indeed sell out. Then, they went dark for many, many months. I too questioned whether they just "quit", and wondered if people would find Epik again, when/if they offered subs the next go round. Only to find out that Chad was redesigning the entire lineup.

Now, he's sold out of the current lineup. So, I guess that answered the question of whether people would return after a hiatus.

Chad was very active in the driver, and car audio biz before he moved into HT. So, I'd say he knows what he's doing. And, the fact that people wait for his products is a testament to their design, performance, value and desirability.

^ no, I probably will not now, as a 2 month wait is a bit of a stretch for a $900 sub.

Mcdonalds is a need now?! Lol. Again, I'm CERTAIN some WILL wait 2 months. That said, it is IMPOSSIBLE to know how many others will move on. But you can be assured there will be MANY. This industry is simply too competitive and there's too much product being delivered within a week or two.

obviously the the point here is lost on a few, but that's cool. I'll go ahead and order elsewhere.

Finally, of course a business can operate however the hell they want (to an extent of course), but
that's not even remotely close to the thrust here.

Put it this way: if epik and its owner(s) could up production and start meeting demand by Monday morning, they would, I guarantee you that. But as someone alluded, this is one of the growing pains of a new enterprise. And, importantly, I'm not blasting them to death, just pointing out the disappointment I and many others are feeling by no being able to purchase their products for a long, long time. Heck, it could well be February. It's currently November.

Again, ouch.
