Past FR graphs from Epik subwoofers, not denoting max spl, were taken at 90-95 dbs. Notes about posting the FR for the Empire on Epik's site has since been removed. About a week or 2 now. Based on in-room graphs from other owners, as well as my own, it seems to be a 24db roll off that seems to begin @ 20Hz. Some posts back, another owner (I think) had a talk with Chad about the low end FR. In essence, the roll off was chosen so as not to sacrafice the pungent midbass response and allows them to blend well with the mains (which they do). The creator's philosophy.

Interesting. I would guess as well that given the relatively low amount of wattage going to each woofer trying to get anything below 25hz or so would have chewed up way too much amp power, and the thinking was that most people with small to mid sized rooms would get ample room gain from 10hz on up to 20/25. So definitely a smart move.

Has anyone taken a close mic response (6")? Curious to see what the driver is doing.

I don't think Chad mis-represented his expectations of the Empire. The description of Empire, since introduction, has always been about it powerful mid-bass response. I have a single 15" Epik Tower powered by 500 watts rms and the Empire only falls short by 2db @ 14hz in-room low end extension (Tower rolls of ~ 18Hz). It beats the Tower in everything else. Considering the Empire has almost 47% less volume than the Tower, at intro price- sells $300 cheaper, and looks more room/decor friendlier in size and finish- I would say allot of user needs have been met. Especially with that price.
Since owning the Empire, it has piqued my interest in single 15" or greater, equal powered front firing seal subs with a 12db roll off. I hope before the year's end to A/B compare and determine which I like best before I go quad .

Are you making your comparison to the Tower with dual Empires, or just one?
Just one Empire. Two would definetly surpass the Tower, and give the Conquest a run .

Just for kicks here is my dual Empire's (Audyssey only) from a first time REW graph. Just listening (feeling) I get good response starting at 14Hz. Just for note I've heard (not measured) dual ULS-15's (hometheatergeek's) that started strong at 10Hz.

I noticed you can get 2 Epik Legends for $899, which is $100 less than buying two separately. Anyone wanna go half with me on duel Legends?
seeing that epik doesn't ship to canada (but does overseas to europe), im wondering if there is any member located in buffalo who would be willing to receive my dual epik empire order and i come in person to pickup. i would pay them for their time. anyone interested?
For anyone who has preordered the Legend by calling Epik directly, what was the shipping charge, and did they
give you any time frame?

Does anybody have a picture with a Sentinel next to an Empire? I'm curious to see the size difference side by side.

Also, my dual Sentinels are up for sale if anybody's looking for a pair. After they sell I'm pretty sure I'll be making the switch to dual Empires.

The Legends are shipping at the end of Sep. They estimate the price for shipping between 50.00 and 75.00 dollars

any response about the thumping noises a few members are noticing with shut-down? also concerned about the auto-on feature and if in fact is not sensitive enough with turning on.

Howdy all.
I sent an E-Mail to Chad last week and I haven't gotten a response yet. I'll post it here in an attempt to help make my decision.
Thanks for any input.

I am very happy with the Dynasty and I am considering adding an Empire to the system. I have been reading up on them at AVS. My questions revolve around the benefits of this arrangement. I currently have an Antimode on the Dynasty and was going to connect a second Antimode to the the Empire.

I believe that the sweet spot for the Empire is higher than the Dynasty. Is this true? Will the Empire fill in a tighter mid range bass? If so, what would be the best way set these up together? Should I set the crossover knob on the Dynasty lower (currently at 150 and fed via LFE cable) and the Empire higher? I currently have the Onkyo receiver crossover set at 80.

Are there any problems with trying to put two different Epik subs / types of Epik subs together?

Here is my environment (please see attachment):

In the diagram the viewable area is 20' wide to the stairs and 31' deep from the front wall to the back wall. 9' ceilings should give me roughly 5580 cubic feet. This does not include the open air area going to the kitchen.
NOTE: The projection TV is now replaced with a flatscreen on the wall where the projection TV was and the AV rack is gone (now under the flatscreen). I now have a space where the AV rack was. The Empire will go here or the Legends will go on both sides of the couch/"listening area" as end tables.

I have a pretty big space to fill. Would dual Legends added to my Dynasty be better than a single Empire with my Dynasty?

I would like to order an Empire or Legends soon. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Thanks...

Wasn't implying he did ... was just curious about whether measurements had ever been taken outdoors!

Anyone take a close mic response (say 6" from the cone?).

Epik Tower on the gon for sale (not mines ).
mrjulius, you room layout is similair to mine. Tower where your Dynasty is at. Openings to one side of the entertainment area. My Empire is up front where your AV rack's at, with my LP (listening position) is 11 ft from the tv. I get couch shaking bass with that config vs the Tower alone. So if it's probable, an Empire where your AV rack is should do nicely.

My Empire is out for delivery! Unfortunately I won't be able to test it a week or so, my room isn't finished yet.

BTW, unless I'm mistaken, that does look like a 24db per octave roll-off (is that 4th order?) at 20hz (i.e., you're down pretty much exactly 24db from 20hz to 10hz). But that graph implies you are getting zero room/boundary gain?? Odd.

Just got my epik empire. What do I set the settings to? crossover? Volume? phase? Do u plug the sub cable in to LFE input?

Plug the SW cable into the LFE input. As a result, you can ignore the crossover knob, or set it to maximum (all the way clockwise) "just in case".

Usually you would set phase to 0 unless you have a specific reason to use 180 deg. But try it anyway just to hear whether it sound better.

Volume is usually around 12 o'clock to 1 o'clock, but it varies based on your room, AVR gain, and personal preferences. If running Audyssey, set the SW gain to about 10 or 11 o'clock, and then feel free to increase it after you have run Audyssey based on personal preference (essentially setting a house curve).

Heck, do what you want with all the settings - it is what you prefer, not what we typically do.
