Are you using an external EQ? Chad did say he had a couple Conquest owners having a similar problem and they were using an external EQ.

no i don't and never did.. the amp needs to be replaced anyways, it no longer worky =(
Its out of warranty by a year but chad offered to give me a discount on the amp. I'm going to give him a call within the next few weeks to purchase it, just waiting for my financial advisor (wife) to give me the ok.

Have any of you split the cost of dual epik legends?
It's a savings of $70 a person after shipping.

If so how do you go about doing that in a legit way (if possible)?

Anyone want to do this?

I would only use it up front next to my main speakers with that high a crossover. If placed next to the listening position you'll need to lower that to 80 or 90hz. You'll still get slam, it just won't reach as high. Is it worth it to only cover that range, that's up to you.

The only 'legit' way is to work out a deal with someone that lives close enough to you to come and pick one up. The worse scenario is, the guy stands you up and you end up with two!

Think it through - Unless the other guy is within reasonable driving distance, the shipping cost to reship one will eat up the potential savings.

If there's anyone in the DFW area that wants to split the cost of dual legends then pm me!

Yes, that was pretty quick, ordered late last Friday night, arriving tomorrow between 11am and 3pm to the North West.

I live in a house, but just for giggles, I told the dude on the phone setting up the delivery appointment, that I live on the top floor of a 7 story apartment with no elevator, after a short pause, he informed me they do curb drop shipments

Okay, got the sub yesterday (came home from work to meet the driver), couldn't wait to get back home from work to set it up and start the demo.

Got it in my bedroom (bedroom H.T. until moving into a bigger house), rearranged the mains slightly to accommodate the new sub, eq'd it, demo'd The Hulk bluray first, watched the first two transformation scenes, first one, pretty decent, on to the second, Not Impressed!!!, This sub is hunk of junk!!! JUST KIDDING, second transformation scene, Hulk stomps his foot in the outer corridor and blows the glass before jumping to the ground....my king size pedestal bed shook like we're having an 8. on the Richter scale, my 14yr old daughter says, "Oh my gosh, the bed is shaking", my wife just looks over at me and says "Ridiculous", that makes me happy

Hmmm...putting an Empire in the bedroom just might backfire on you, Geoff.

Thanks, I figured there'd be a bit of a break in period like my speakers, just one question, no owners manual with these subs?

You're totally right, last night while my wife and I were checking out the new sound, I was as nervous a whore in church just waiting for my wife to tell me, "Okay, that's gone far enough", I had even admitted that to her after the demo previews, fortunately for me, she told me I had already gone too far long ago so nothing would surprise her now. SWEET Jesus, thank you for this woman

That's how I feel about mine. Our theater is, I like to think, tastefully done in our 4500 cubic ft living room area, but as long as it's not too intrusive, she's all about some sound for movies. I swear the most common phrase from her is "put a movie on" while she's cooking. It's a pretty ok situation for me.

Here's my version of the famous subdude with an Epik Phoenix. Basically it's a 3/4" MDF with dense closed cell foam with polyester fabric around the platform.

The floor is tile on a concrete slab, but I was still getting rattling with the windows and lights. Put all the subs on isolation platform and the bass tightened up and the rattles stopped. So people on concrete IMO should still invest their time in this! People on wood floors or not on concrete slabs probably would benefit much more!

I have a feeling the subdude uses much thicker and denser foam, but upon making the platforms and sitting on it, it seems they don't compress significantly. Once I placed the Phoenix on the platform it seems it compressed 2-3mm but the benefits are still there. However I am not sure how much better or equivalent the Subdude is compared to DIY. The foam is not as rock hard as the Mopads or Speakerdude.

I have my Phoenix sitting on a large piece of scrap granite which sits on my carpeting. I have a wood subfloor. My ports have plenty of room to breathe and the granite piece has lessened the floor vibration a bit. Doing get me wrong the floor still shakes and vibrates, but to a much less degree.

Empire with 70's

I removed the last two onkyo speakers from my set up in anticipation of the arrival of a pair of 40's to go in the "wide" position. This will complete my upgrade from the Onkyo SKS-HT870 to the PolkAudio Monitor line.

I have an Onkyo 807 so I've bi-amped the 70's just to see for myself, unfortunately, I've made this change at the same time of adding the sub.

The result;, I really can't formulate words at this time, my jaw is still on the ground. My wife on the other hand says this, "Wow, I didn't expect it to be so subtle", SCHWING!!! Yes, the Empire has a very high WAF. Granted, I have the sub volume at 1/3 and eq'd at 50% volume so there is - so - much - more.

The 70's are really singing, I don't know if they're just breaking in from Christmas or the bi-amping with my 807 put a little more spunk in 'em or the sub is contributing a nice relationship or all of the above.

Once I got the "So subtle" from my wife, I skipped to the big shoot out scene in IM2, dialed up the sub, turned up the volume and let'er rip, crap man, I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call the police and report an early 4th of July celebration inside my house.

There's so much clean power here, it was obvious my previous two little subs were straining when I put them to the test, this thing is NITE n DAY.

After weeks of research and debate on a subwoofer I finally pulled the trigger on a new Epik Legend. From all my reading I think it will be the perfect fit for me and my space.

Woohoo I'm excited.

That's awesome! What made you decide on the Legend over the other options you've been looking at? I remember seeing your previous posts because we have around the same budget and I'm looking at a lot of the same subs. Any help you can give me and others would be very valuable.

I gotta agree with you Gov . After a couple weeks of owning it, I'm still in awe of its size and capabilities. Only a couple of years ago, I was looking forward to getting a 12" sub.

Why not stick some foam underneath that granite and get rid of those vibrations?!

Well I was looking for something that was musical and could give me enough punch for movies. I wanted to stay below $500 but splurged a little. The space is about 3000 cu ft.

I wanted a sealed subwoofer due to the majority of people saying sealed would be better for music. I don't recall reading anything seriously negative about the legend, mostly rave reviews, and problems were generally user error. The one expert review I found here said very positive things about it. Plus the Legend has dual 12" drivers, which just seems awesome. Haha

I didn't go with an emotiva because I don't think it would have had enough punch for movies and supposedly it rolls of around 25+ Hz. While the Legend info reads that it can dig deeper to 20 Hz or even 16. I didn't go with eD due to the wait for it to be built and I read some fit and finish problems, along with a few reliability concerns (usually after setting up with Audyssey). I don't think their subs would be as musical either. The HSU STF-2 might not have quite enough output for my space. The VTF-2 would have probably been my second choice behind the Legend. I have not heard anything negative about it, but it costs $38 more and I was more interested in a sealed sub rather than ported. Even though the VTF is suppose to be quite musical too.

deftone, did they tell you when legends would be shipping again?
I emailed Epik last week, and got a response that afternoon, looking more to the end of February still, but no date. I think last Monday or Tuesday the updated the main page of the website saying that they will be back in stock soon. Still trying to decide if I want to go with a Legend or a HSU VTF-2, both should be overkill for my room. I about bought the HSU a few hours ago, I'm tired of waiting! I can't seem to find many, if any, that have heard both.

No. I ordered it online. Looks like near the end of Feb according to hawkeye. You can still put in an order and they won't charge you until it ships. So if you change your mind between now and the ship date, it would be an easy cancel.

Would my Empire benefit from a subdude type thing?
I have it on a wood floor at the moment.

Mine sit on laminate floors. The subs have NO vibration and the 2 Empires that I have in the front are my TV stand. These subs are built with 1" MDF and have no flex or vibration.

I've got mine on a bare wood floor and have no issues. Wood floor makes it somewhat manageable to slide around rather than lift that pig! Err, beautiful woofie! Love woofie! It is VD today after all. It is amazing how little vibration they have even when cranking. There's some videos if you want (showing a coin on edge on top of the cabinet).
