thanks marvin. my daughter and i were saying the same thing about you during the drive back home. lol. just remember, good things come to those who wait. my entire setup is evidence of that. and as far as the annoying people, when you're throwing an amazing party, people want to crash it. even at the last second . good luck and thanks again. it was a pleasure.

I have my Empire switched to turn on/off with the power on my AVR. When it turns off it makes a chirping sound. It does this even with nothing connected but the power wire. Does anyone else have this happen???

Before i paid for the sub they replied to my e-mails right away. Now that they have my money they've ignored me for the past 2 weeks.

Try the auto on/off instead. Does it chirp when you power it on any other way than via your avr? Sounds like your AVR...

PS They may not always be able to answer each email, personally I'd rather have them pay attention to the subs but why not try calling them?

I think your comment is for gregdpw? I was thinking the same thing when I saw that center, tho....that thing is huge.

Why would i leave it on 24/7 if i'm not using it? I have it hooked up to a switched outlet. Like i already said, i have nothing else hooked up to it besides the power cord and it still chirps when the power is cut.

They answered 'each and every' email before i paid them... why not now?

Does anyone elses sub do this when the power is cut?

EDIT: The only wire going into the sub is power wire. If i pull the power wire from the outlet on the wall, as the sub loses power it makes a chirping sound. The chirp sound happens after the power wires been pulled from the wall, and there are no other wires hooked up to the sub. The sub isn't hooked up to a damn thing and the chirp still happens.

The auto on/off turns it on when it gets a signal and off after a few minutes of no signal. I run two subs this way, very easy. No chirping with my Empire FWIW. Small small amount of consumption of energy in this mode, no more than many electronics you've got.

Email can be daunting in a small company, try the phone. It's not about you.

Anyone else use theirs with a switched outlet?

My e-mails were't "daunting" before they cashed my check.

does anyone elses sub chirp after it loses power?

Why are you getting upset with the vendor before you even know if it's your own crap avr or not?

Or even know if they've got one of the idiot spam filters many companies sign up for that block legit email?
how could it be anything other than the subwoofer when it is hooked up to NOTHING. NOT EVEN THE WALL??????????????????????????

NOOOOOOOTTTTHHHHHHIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG

IT IS HOOKED UP TO NOTHING and it chirps.

EDIT: i've tried to not put you down. But how could an AVR that isn't hooked up be the cause??????? I've said 5 times it's not even hooked up. Why would you call my AVR "crap" when you don't even know what it is and i've stated 5 times it's not hooked up to the AVR and it still chirps???????
lovehd- go turn your subwoofer to on, not switched, pull the ac cord out of the back and tell me if it chirps as its powering down.

Your descriptions are very lacking. Who knows WTF you're babbling about? Call Chad on Tuesday and figure it out. I was just telling you about your possible connections/power source causing the problem rather than the procuct itself. You seem to take offense at the very things you're on the offensive with..fitting?

"It does this even with nothing connected but the power wire."

^from my very first post. Thanks for all your useless help.

EDIT: If anyone could turn their Empire on, and pull the plug and see if it chirps i'd appreciate it.

Chuck you're sorta weird, your wordage tends to be very combative -- I don't have an Empire so I can't test what you're talking about -- but more than likely it's a capacitor discharging when you turn off the power on your surge protector.

I have 2 MFW-15 subs and they make a pop sound when I disconect the power cable, I think what you are hearing is normal, you should consider living your sub in auto like someone suggest it.

Quit fiddling with the damn power cord and leave it on auto. Why are you yanking the power cord anyway? THERE IS A POWER SWITCH ON THE BACK. Go check the "SVS Sealed Subs" thread. It is not unusual. 99% of us cannot relate to you because we leave out subs on AUTO.
Yea i know the circuitry inside is discharging and that's why it makes the sound. I just need to know if it's supposed to make the sound normally. If no one else's makes a noise then i don't want mine to make noises either. Furthermore i'd be worried about having a bad apple amp. If it's doing irregular things then i want to take care of this before my warranty runs out.

I only yank the power cord to test the damn thing. By pulling the power cord it wasn't hooked up to the wall anymore. Usually i have it switched at the power strip by 12v from my AVR.

and yes, if i never turned it off that would eliminate the noise from it powering down. Thank you all for your prophetic analysis. This isn't the conversation i wanted to have at all though. Its annoying that instead of giving a simple answer everyone assumes i'm an idiot and can't use the auto on feature. I don't want to use the auto on feature. My post had nothing to do with the auto on feature. Auto on takes too long to turn on and is known to turn off during quiet parts of movies. Switching the subwoofer is superior to any auto-on in EVERY way. But what do i know. Most of you are geniuses and i'm just stupid.

If anyone wants to pull the plug on their Empire and see if it makes a noise, whether popping or chirping i'd appreciate it. If you want to tell me how i'm doing things wrong, my avr is crap, i have it hooked up wrong, i should use auto on - that's not helpful.

No matter how happy you are with the responses you've gotten so far, you're not going to get much help here with the attitude you're displaying. I'm not going to go rip the cord out of my power strip on my Legend to see if it pops just to help you.

In reference to your quoted text above, my experience is that Auto On with my Legend is instantaneous, has never turned off during quiet parts of movies, and turns off every time without issues (and particularly without a POP). Maybe you should try it and maybe it would solve your problem. As an earlier reply stated, most everyone here is not going to be able to help you because they, too, use Auto On and don't have problems with it either.
In fact i think the attitude is from the responses i've gotten. I'm tired of explaining things over and over and over. I asked a simple question and quite frankly all these off-topic responses i've received have convoluted my initial question. so much so that others are leaving statements off topic to my initial question convoluting it further.

No one suggested you "rip" the cord from the powerstrip. Simply flipping the power switch on the strip would suffice. But if you want sensationalize my request into something crazy then go ahead. Pulling the power cord simply reproduces the process of the subwoofer losing power, as in my situation. If you have a switch somewhere in the circuit then by all means, flip the switch. If your subwoofer goes right to the wall, then the only way to reproduce a switched outlet is to pull the plug.

using auto on doesnt have ANY benefit to switching the subwoofer AT ALL. I don't know why i'd choose an inferior method because Dre325 told me so. And quite frankly i think it's irresponsible and unhelpful for people to talk for 'everyone' on the forum. PLENTY of people switch their subwoofer. Please only speak for yourself.

My question was very straight forward and simple. Not many answers i have received have even attempted to answer the only question i asked. Why would i be "happy" with people incorrectly telling me how i'm doing things wrong, when i in no way, shape, or form asked for the suggestions in the first place.

I don't know how you people act in real life. But ignoring someones initial question, because you're assuming you're smarter than them and you know what they want to know/do better than they do. Then pushing some method on the person when the person in no way was asking that. Well that's rude. I am NOT considering using the auto on. I never said i was. Why am i even talking about auto-on? Not to mention auto-on is INFERIOR IN EVERY WAY.

If someone wants to help me with the only question i have then i'd appreciate it. I really didn't come here to argue about how i set up my stereo.

99% of the people on this forum agree that this isn't amusing and someone should answer my question.

Maybe a while longer :-). He does have a specific question, though, so maybe an Empire owner will ignore the bitching and humor him.

Oh, and Chuckb, I've decided to ignore your attitude and flip the switch on my power strip for you and I don't get any sound at all other than the sub switching off. This is a Legend though so not exactly what you're looking for unfortunately. Back to normal auto on for me, the evidently inferior way to have my subwoofer turn on and off.

Thanks. It is inferior but i wont hold it against you The only reason i pointed out that that method is inferior is because everyone seemed to be trying to push it on me. I wasn't trying to be critical of you or your way of doing things. Just i'm perfectly happy with my way as you seem to be.

I definitely appreciate the people that have attempted helping to answer my question. But part of the problem is my question got so convoluted by people posting unnecessary 'solutions' that i don't think some people realize what my question was at all, and then it snowballs down the hill into no one having any idea what my question was. I'm not trying to be combative, but i don't want to play along either.

anyone that would like to help me with that question i'd appreciate it.

I have 3 different subs in my HT (one is an empire) they all make a pop noise if I just pull the plug hope that helps.

yea it does help. thank you.

I really want to just ignore it. If it was a pop i think i'd understand it more. But it's a weird chirp.

At first i don't think it was doing it oddly enough. Which is what has me slightly worried. :\\

I really don't mind the sound at all. But if it's acting differently than other epik subwoofers i'd like to nip any potential problems in the bud before the warranty runs out. I've only had it for a month or 2 though.

if anyone else has any experience with power down noises on the epik i'd be more than happy if you shared

Chucky Baby - I have two Empires and they both make a subtle "click" or "pop" when I power them up and/or down. I agree with your comment on "Auto On." My experience is that it takes a fairly strong signal to bring them on and they WILL go into standby if there is no LFE signal over an extended period. Therefore, I power them up and down each time I am doing the Home Theater thing. Now, take a deep breath and visit your happy place and take comfort in knowing that Mr. Chad Kuypers, the owner of Epik Subwoofers, is a very kind and compassionate gentleman who will address your concerns with patience and wisdom even though he already has your money. Chill Bro!
yeah i think you're right. i'm thinking: pop/click=normal, chirp= not normal.

I'll call chad next week and hopefully report back on how great the service at epic is.

thanks for your thoughtful reply.
