Guys, the amps on the Legend gets hot. Chad's response to the heat issue is that it was normal (?) for the amp to be hot.
To me (and Tom V of Power Sound Audio agrees) heat is not a good thing, and will shorten the life of the amp.

I have 2 Legends, and the amps get hot to the touch...very hot. But they have been fine for over 7 months.
I replaced them with Power Sound Subs, because I want to feel the bass below 20hz, and I'm an upgrade fool.
15hz at 115db is kinda nice. wink.gif

Seems that the customer service issue has been straightened out somewhat....so buy dual Legends for
800 bucks, shipped. The amp warranty is 3 years. I've never seen a deal like that, two dual opposed
12" woofers for $400, or two subs for $800, and free shipping. Sale is time limited. I paid $1100 for my duals
(shipped).

Its not a great deal, its only ok. Like I said its only a 100.00 savings off their regular pair price. If I lived in California and got two of these shipped w/o taxes for 799.98 thats a nice deal. For me to pick-up w/ taxes it's about 875.00, not so great a deal . If he knocked off 30 or 40 dollars each for  local pick-up I would probably get these. For me, I will spend more and get a couple PSA xs15's shipped for 1425.00 and get alot more sub for the money.

Only 100 dollars off? Maybe I should hold off then. I remember someone on slickdeals saying that they paid 500 last Black Friday.

Only if your picking them up. If not, you are saving the 100.00 plus free shipping and no taxes. The 100.00 difference im talking about is if you buy a pair.smile.gif

That was me. The sale last year was only free shipping.

We're talking about a measly $27 in taxes for a single.

I have an older Epik Caliper and wondering how the Legend would compare to it? This sounds like a good deal and have never had any problems with my sub. That being said I have always been intrigued by the empire/legend design. I don't have or remember the specs on the Caliper but how would one legend compare to it? I assume the Empire would be an upgrade? If so how much? My use is mainly for HT in a open floorplan(for now) and matched with Monitor Audio GS 20/10's. Would a single empire be better than dual legends?

yes...I know, but I think your missing my point. I still think they should still provide a little additional discount for local pick-up. Maybe 25.00 dollars a sub. I don't think even with their shipping discount they could ship one of these much cheaper than 25.00.

If its only a MEASLY $27 in taxes maybe you can pay them for me.rolleyes.gif

Is the caliber ported? I think the empire will pair with the caliber better than the legend. I had a legend and dragon together and the legend couldn't keep up with the Dragon in the lower department. With two legends, it’s just going to be louder not deeper. A single empire will have more impact and rumble.

If the offer doesn't work out for you, decline it. Nobody is forcing you to pay anything.

Thanks for the reply. $100 bucks off - a 20% discount - does seem like a pretty good deal.

But I was more interested in knowing what, in your opinion, constitutes a great subwoofer deal for people in Illinois - a deal better than an Epik Legend for $399 + tax, and no shipping charge (which remains a solid incentive for folks unable or unwilling to make the drive to pick up the sub).

Thanks. smile.gif

When you buy furniture, would you ask them if they can take $100 off because you rather pick-up? Or ordering pizza hut, and ask them if there is a discount if you were picking up instead of delivery?

I really don't think their is a better deal. This deal is excellent for someone having it shipped.  Even if they live in Illinois. I just think their should be a little off for local pick-up. I relly don't want to argue with anybody, i just wanted to let anyone know if they wanted to pick-up their is no shipping discount.

Not trying to be a jerk, but again, if the deal doesn't work out for you, don't buy it. While I'm glad you shared what you found, I too don't think this is unreasonable. It's not like they advertised a pick and choose your own discount? That said, I still think it's a pretty good deal, if you are looking for an entry level product. When Chad stops waffing up his new high-end product rumors, and actually unveils something, I might be a buyer again. When he does, I'm sure not going to let $27 bucks sway me. Good luck.

Fair enough. And, sincerely, thanks again for your reply. smile.gif

This is additional to the $100 discount one would receive for purchasing Dual Legends -- plus free shipping.

You might consider having them shipped free to save the time, trouble, and gas.

You are already getting a discount of 100 bucks off the price. The cherry on top is in the free shipping. If you are local and you have it shipped, you are getting the same excellent deal as everyone else across the country. Why go to pick up if you can get it shipped to you for free, then expect even more knocked off? Makes no sense.
From my perspective, all local buyers are getting the best deal out of everyone. Free shipping, discount on the sub, and delivery in a few days!

Why, because they are a 1/2 hour from me and i don't have to worry about UPS or FedEx handling my new subs. Also I can pick-up on my schedule and not have to worry about being home for delivery.

Does this make sense to you?

Sure man whatever works for you. If I lived in IL, I'd order and sit back and let everyone else do the work and delivery, but thats just me. I realize though that it can be difficult to get off work and be home for delivery. Even with their reputations, I doubt that UPS or FEDEX would destroy a sub coming from half hour away.
What doesn't make sense is you thinking it's not that great deal, when I think locals are getting the best deal out of everyone. Just my two cents.

Personally I think I'm pulling the trigger myself for a Legend. I don't see a deal like this coming around again anytime soon.

Well, after having two different subs damaged in delivery and going thru the claim hastle I would ALWAYS pick-up if I could.

And again for me its only a $100.00 difference from their dual Legend price.

I'm done with this...Peace Outcool.gif

Does anyone have a legend and an empire in the same room?

I've had an empire a couple years but recently moved where I have a larger media room (approx 3700 cu ft) and have been considering adding a second sub at some point.

Would like to jump on this legend deal but wondering if it will be sufficient running alongside an empire.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for the reply and yes it is ported(front). Ultimately I wanted to go with dual subs but you think adding the Empire would suffice(or be better than two legends)? I wonder how the Caliper and Empire would blend together? Would the Empire go lower than the Caliper?

For that sized room, you really should be looking at options larger than Empire, such as JTR Captivator S2, Seaton Submersive, etc
Other thing to keep in mind is that Empire does not go very deep - it has a filter below 20 Hz
post #18747 of 19475
Does Legend have high pass filter below 20hz also or is it just Empire?
How do you know the empire has a filter at 20 hz? I know I've measured mine below that BTW.

I'm not out to shake my house. I'm just wondering if adding a legend to my empire would suffice in balancing out the bass and assist in pressurizing the 3700 cf room.

I wouldn't want a ported sub. Don't recall what a submersive costs but know I don't intend to spend that much anytime soon.

Basically deciding if I should add a legend with this promo or hold off and likely add an empire down the road.

I have a larger room than you. Started with a single Empire, was relatively happy until I happened to pickup two Infinity PSW310s on sale and put them in the same room. Even though they are lesser subs (and won't go as low as a Legend will) they still help out on most material (sure, on the deepest stuff they're not helping out but that isn't everything). I'm thinking about the dual Legend deal now and let those Infinitys go to the bedroom as originally intended but may just go for another Empire instead.
