Be that as it may, it sure is a horrible business model.

Do yourselves a favor with your broken Epik's... Throw them in the garbage and buy a Power sound.. That's what I did! biggrin.gif

Would the Olympics be as exciting if we watched it every single day?
Don't you love it when that special someone takes their time?

Haha just think of how boring Christmas would be if it happened every day! How does that old saying go "Absence makes the heart grow founder" I guess that applies to Epik subs too!....lol tongue.gif

My amp had a very high operating temp and would not go into standby while in auto setting, went a couple of times into protection where the led stayed red no matter what nor how long I waited for it to cool down which forced me to disconnect physically for a while and reconnect everything again. It ended up blowing both fuses(original and spare) and after I took the amp out it seems a cap was blown.

2. I considered trying to fix it locally but how long would it have lasted, I mean it was still going to be the same extremely hot amp with the funky auto mode and I already had that Bash 300 available.

3. I was never able to hear back from Epik after asking on how to proceed via email so I replaced it with a Bash 300 amp which meant I had to mod the sub's back panel and lose the boost I've heard the original amp's have around 25Hz(someone correct me if I'm way off here and got some solid info otherwise). To tell you the truth, it's been working flawlessly for about 2 months, auto off works perfectly, won't get scorching hot even when pushed compared to the original, sounds good to me and my family(haven't measured).
if you don't mind adding another component you cld get a used BFD for $50 allowing you full control over the eq including bringing back that boost

I don't profess to know what Chad decided to do by any means, he wasn't there when I considered buying another. Does it change my life? Or my decisions on supporting small business? Heck no. I am an avid cyclist, have been for many many years, and part of that is supporting small guys with innovative ways of doing things, or sometimes you don't get to play with the cool toys. If you just think being a safe and protected consumer is the beall and endall then go for it, just don't drag me into your nightmare.

Chad apparently is the only one who knows who he wants in the know right now....I'm cool with waiting to see how that works out. I haven't tried to contact him but then I don't need to at this time. I can't speak for the very few reporting issues but I don't know them as well as I do the little of what I know of Chad....so go figure.

That does seem reasonable. Thanks VB, I'll take it into consideration.

My plan is to, in the coming months, phase it to secondary duties as the sub for the living room's 2.1 system because I'm heading towards a pair of DIY 15" subs based on the DVC385-88's for a dedicated HT Room.

I measured the amp of my Dragon it measures 11 H by 8 W and the parts express Bash 500 watt amp measures about the same dimensions. My amp works fine for now I am just preparing for when if it goes out (hopefully not). Would the Bash amp work for my Dragon.

Add me to the list - my Legend stopped working over a month ago, fuse was blown, replaced it with the provided spare and it blew immediately. I've left three messages on Epiks' phone number over the past month and have received no responses. Evidence suggests this company's gone under and I have to find some other (more time consuming and potentially more compromised) way of getting it repaired.

I just got off the phone with Chad. (Answered my phone call on the 2nd ring). I asked him when he expects the next shipment of Empire's ready to go out. He stated a couple of months, but here is the kicker, it will be a completely new version of the Empire. He gave me no specifics except to say a more powerful and beefier amp and drivers with longer throws. Cost will increase as well (naturally). I asked him if this would blend well with my current Empire and he said yes. I got the feeling that he could no longer make and/or sell the Empire and be profitable. He did mention parts are harder to come by and referenced several of his competitors going out of business. (I did not ask him how this affected him). I also did not ask him to discuss some of the customer services issues that have been plaguing him on here and other forums. I asked him if he expects his new product to be finished by summer and he said "oh most def". Chad was very cordial and seemed happy to be able to tell someone what he was doing, and ended the conversation by saying he is currently updating his websites blog and hope to be done with that tonight.

As it stands, I am still an Epik customer.

As a proud owner of twin Towers that's very good news!

What the hell, it's been like 3 months, and now it's STILL a couple months away? Unacceptable.

Subs can't magically make themselves and design takes time. You can't fault anyone for that as that's Chads time. The CS aspect concerns owners as I understand it. smile.gif

I bought 2 Empires about 10 months ago...sort of wish I waited. rolleyes.gif

I wonder if the new Empire will have a more reliable amp as well. It would also be nice if this amp could be fitted to older subs which would deal with a lot of the current owners left out in the cold.
Hmm... I'd suggest that buyers beware of new product from epik. I hate to be a negative nancy, but I feel as if I bought a product that was destined to fail and can't even get it fixed due to the company going AFK/Not answering phones etc...

Now, this is my issue and not everyone has a broken product. I really liked my Legend subwoofer while it worked. So if you are fortunate enough not to have your equipment fail, you'd be getting good gear at a good price imo.

I've had the amp blow on mine but the light went dead and wouldn't light up at all.

If one of the driver coils show the amp a "short" it might be the root cause of the amp failure. Putting a good amp in the "bad" enclosure could end up with two non working amps. Putting the non working amp in a different enclosure for a test is okay though. Also, if the LED illuminates its not the fuse.

I unstacked my Empires tonight in order to do some further investigation as to why one is not working. The first thing that I did was test the known working one. It worked as it should. So I then took that cable and connected it to the sub in question. At first I heard the test tone. I was all of the sudden very happy, but that was short lived. I figured that since I heard the tone it had to be the cable or another piece of gear. After making sure everything was connected secure I re-tested as before. The working one worked and the one in question didn't. I started taking things out of the chain. I went directly from the processor trying balanced and unbalanced cables. The working one worked as it should and not a peep out of the sub in question. I am baffled.

My next plan was to swap the amps as you guys have suggested. Pulling the amp out of the back, it does not look like there is any good way to easily disconnect the amp to swap them. It all looks soldered and then straight through to the subs. The last thing I want to do is cut the wires as that will probably come back to bite me in the rear. What do you guys suggest next?

Swap wiring see what happens. External not internal wiring.

How old is your Empire?

I called Epik again this morning and Chad answered on the second ring. He assured me that the company is doing well and there are some exciting announcements coming. Re: repairing my Legend, he's going to ship me a new amp and an install kit.

Sounds like epik CS is answering questions so I'd call before cutting anything.
If you can't get through email me at my support box and send a couple of pictures of what you're dealing with and we'll walk you through the best option(s).

If I was in the market for a new sub, its posts like this that would put PSA (XS30 to be exact) at or near the top of my list. Unbelievably cool of you to help out someone out who has an issue/problem with a competitors product. A-Plus sir.

Totally agree. PowerSound is on the top of my list.

I'm getting an operator message when I call epik. "I'm sorry, your call can not be completed at this time.... please try back later."
Yeah, ole Tom seems like good people.wink.gif
post #19109 of 19461
I think you'd have a VERY hard time finding anyone to have anything bad to say about Tom or PSA. His customer service is over the top and there's a reason why they can't keep the new XS30 in stock. Great product from a company that gives faith to the fact that some companies still believe in great customer service!

There are just way too many things about Epik right now that remind me of Elemental Designs to recommend them to anyone (even if you could buy an actual subwoofer which you cannot). I really hope Chad can turn this thing around, but it is not looking good.
